John Galliano Gets Booted From His Own Label Posted: 15 Apr 2011 07:06 AM PDT John Galliano, who was fired as creative director at Christian Dior following mounting allegations of racism and Antisemitism and a leaked video that showed the designer saying “I love Hitler,” has been ousted from his eponymous label, WWD is reporting. The label, 91% of which is owned by Christian Dior SA, will continue to produce collections designed by the in-house team. According to WWD, pre-spring is already in the works. The paper also mentions that Dior has received several unsolicited offers to buy Galliano, but says that “it is understood a sale of the company is not an immediate priority, and no banks have been mandated to sell it, nor has financial data been made available to interested parties.” Follow Fashionista on Twitter or become a fan on Facebook. This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |

Seoul Fashion Week Part 2: Women’s Fall 2011 Posted: 14 Apr 2011 04:10 PM PDT Fashionista contributor Long Nguyen is the co-founder/style director of Flaunt. SEOUL, KOREA–"I wish I could find underground designers that I could bring back and be the first to have in the store before everyone else get on board," said Sara Dovan, a co-owner of the Traffic designer men and women stores in Los Angeles, over breakfast on her last day in Seoul before a night flight home from the city’s Fashion Week. “I'm surprised to see how the younger designers here are so quick to espouse commercial fashion, rather than taking a route–like many of their colleagues in New York or Paris–that champions making creative or even perhaps unsalable clothes," I added. "But there are a few really good collections here," Sara responded. Follow Fashionista on Twitter or become a fan on Facebook. This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |

Posted: 14 Apr 2011 10:57 AM PDT Dov Charney Wants to Recreate Hugh Hefner’s Lifestyle Circa 1970: The New York Times‘ piece on Charney is full of interesting tidbits. Ilse Metchek, president of the California Fashion Association and friend of Charney, says that the controversial CEO of American Apparel’s 20-room home is like a “dormitory.” On his front yard? A sculpture of a hand giving the middle finger. How fitting. {NY Times} The World’s Most Expensive Shoe: Your Louboutins got nothing on these solid gold heels that are encrusted with 2,000 diamonds. Matthew Williamson Sets the Record Straight About Kate Middleton Posted: 14 Apr 2011 10:16 AM PDT Matthew Williamson was on hand at Macy’s flagship Herald Square store last night to celebrate the launch of his Impulse capsule collection for the mass retailer. So was Dree Hemingway, who stars in the line’s campaign, as well as Kelis, to provide the soundtrack. We sat down with the Brit designer, who is no stranger to high street collaborations having done one for H&M a few years back, to find out why he decided to pair up with Macy’s, how he found a muse in Dree, and, most importantly, why he thinks everyone should “get over” Kate Middleton. Kardashians “Secretly” Collaborating With OPI? Posted: 14 Apr 2011 09:07 AM PDT In what appears to be a brilliant publicity move, the Kardashian sisters–well, at least Khloe and Kourtney–had a "secret" meeting with OPI yesterday. Khloe tweeted first, "Top secret meeting with my sisters for OPI." This was followed up shortly afterward by Kourtney's: "Amazing top secret meeting today with @KhloeKardashian at OPI!!! I am obsessed with their nail polish colors!” This can only mean one thing, right? Another collaboration for Kardashian Inc. Vogue Covers Get Hand-stitched Into Art Posted: 14 Apr 2011 07:31 AM PDT British Vogue has just been immortalized in yarn. And embroidery thread. Lost at E Minor tipped us off to artist Inge Jacobsen, who created these incredibly detailed high fashion samples by stitching directly onto British Vogue‘s glossy covers–recreating Natalia Vodianova and Rosie Huntington-Whiteley's cleavage with impressive accuracy. Jacobsen says it took her around 40 hours to hand-stitch each cover. Unfortunately Jacobsen’s fashion-meets-arts and crafts masterpieces aren’t available for purchase until June, as they’re part of her final degree show. Click through to see Rosie Huntington-Whiteley in cross stitch. Which cover would you like to see get Jacobsen’s hand-stitched treatment?
