J Mendel, Issa, On Aura Tout Vu and More Design Looks In Fur For the Kopenhagen Fur Show Posted: 08 Feb 2011 04:00 AM PST COPENHAGEN–The Kopenhagen Studio show, one of the standouts of Copenhagen fashion week, saw Kopenhagen Fur, the largest pelt auction house in the world, handpick nine emerging and established international fashion talents to experiment and (hopefully) innovate with their controversial material. First up was red carpet favorite J. Mendel, who drew on fur's traditional evening wear status to produce a collection of prim and femme pieces that culminated in a floor length, tulle-skirted ballgown paired with a lustrous, outsized fur evening wrap. Next off the mark was Mila Schön whose caramel suiting and black gathered-gossamer dresses lacked the 'wow' factor of J Mendel's work, but showed some novel experimentation with texture. Shaved-back fur was treated into a honeycomb pattern, with large ridges left unshorn down arms and across hips, creating a dramatic, plume effect. Fashionista 50: The Most Influential People in New York Fashion Posted: 07 Feb 2011 09:01 PM PST How do you measure influence? Is it through website hits? Or sales? Through ad dollars? Or the number of mass retailers who’ve knocked off your work? The answer is all of the above and none of the above. Influence is an intangible thing that just happens when you know your craft and you work hard at it. To determine who belongs in the Fashionista 50–our list of the most influential people working in New York fashion–we used our own knowledge of the industry, combined with advice from industry sources. We also considered each candidate’s consumer reach–through sales, media, etc. To be considered, candidates had to live and work in New York for most of the year. What’s Fashionista’s definition of influential? It describes people who are shaping the direction of the New York fashion industry, both aesthetically and in terms of how the business works. You’ll find the entire Fashionista 50 list after the jump. Click on the person’s name to read a full bio. And if you really want to click through the whole slideshow, you can do so here. Dear Fashionista, We’re looking for women who don't merely love fashion, but live it. If you are always at the forefront of fashion and style then you need to be involved. In March, an online community is launching to discover the vision of true fashion lovers on hair care, fashion and style in 2011. It will run for 3 weeks from March 1, 2011. The community is an open and interactive space, in which you can share your knowledge and give your views, whenever and how often you like and you can be part of the team creating a new global haircare brand. It’s not a one-way conversation, we really do want to hear your thoughts. The more you contribute the greater the reward and you will have the opportunity to connect with 100 other style leaders in the UK and the USA. Why not invite one of your friends to apply as well? If you are both selected, you could both receive an online gift certificate for net-a-porter.com worth £250/$300. Posted: 07 Feb 2011 11:32 AM PST Elisabetta Canalis for Cavalli: George Clooney’s girlfriend bares it all in a second round of ads for Roberto Cavalli, donning nothing but red lips and select pieces from the designer’s new underwear collection. Cavalli has called Canalis his “ideal of a woman.” Le sexy. {HuffPo} Wrap it Up in Chanel: Designer bags are so last year. Just in time for Valentine’s Day, images of Chanel condoms have been making the rounds on the internets, with an photo of the designer condoms appearing branded with a “Keep it Classy” slogan below the interlocked C’s. Rumored at $279 for a 12-pack, getting some wouldn’t be cheap for the couples interested in these Chanel rubbers. However, upon further investigation, it seems these love gloves are (shockingly!) only a rumor…but we don’t think it’s such a horrible idea. {Refinery 29} Anna From the Block: Vogue EIC Anna Wintour left the confines of Manhattan for her stepson Sam Shaffer’s surprise birthday bash at Frank’s Lounge in Fort Green, Brooklyn. But, true to to her ways, Wintour did not arrive solo–she came with her boyfriend Shelby Bryan, Vogue senior accessories editor Filipa Fino and stylist Christian Stroble. It’s never a party until the fashion arrives. {NYPost} Follow Fashionista on Twitter or become a fan on Facebook. This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |
