Heidi Klum Gets Naked for Project Runway Campaign

Posted: 03 Jun 2011 06:41 AM PDT

Get excited! Project Runway host Heidi Klum will appear naked in ads for the series’ ninth season, according to the Hollywood Reporter.

The campaign is part of Lifetime‘s new marketing strategy–the basic cable channel is aiming to go less “woman in peril” (even though LTMs are ahhhmazing) and more “brazen, strong, confident and sexy.”

Neiman Marcus’ Ken Downing Is Doing a Beauty Collaboration (and Tells Us that Shoes and Handbags Will Match this Fall)

Posted: 03 Jun 2011 06:10 AM PDT

When I first heard that Ken Downing, the fashion director at Neiman Marcus, developed a color collection in collaboration with Le Métier de Beauté, I said, "Huh?" Then I really thought about it and it started to seem like a good idea. Then I talked to him about it, and it suddenly made utter and perfect sense. Think about it–this man is around clothes and makeup and women constantly. He lives and dies by trends. It's a no-brainer.

Lauren Conrad on Her Second Collection for Paper Crown (Plus the Full Look Book)

Posted: 02 Jun 2011 04:12 PM PDT

Lauren Conrad’s new line Paper Crown might not have the publicity of an MTV reality show behind it, but it’s still chugging right along.

In fact, Conrad, who is on the cover of Lucky‘s July issue in a complete look from her new label, told the mag that she’s even glad her reality show was dropped. "It's easier to launch the line without MTV," she says. "A lot of people in fashion don't want to be linked with anything that has to do with reality TV. Showrooms were turning us down." Plus, she concedes her life isn’t exactly MTV fodder anymore. “There weren't any scenes of me getting drunk or fighting, so what's the point?" she told the mag.

Conrad seems bent on proving herself in the fashion world.

What’s Up With Botox Lately? We Talk to a Dermatologist About all the Recent Crazy News

Posted: 02 Jun 2011 03:19 PM PDT

Botox, despite its years of use and now-mainstream status, is still a great source of fascination and debate in beauty and medical circles. The more experience dermatologists have with the drug, the more creative ways they are finding to use it. And as a result, a lot of ethical and social questions arise.

Botox Mom stole the headlines with her fake story, but we all believed that it could actually happen. In the last week no fewer than four Botox stories appeared in various outlets.

Armani Teams Up With Tommy Ton and Co. to Launch Heritage Frames

Posted: 02 Jun 2011 03:03 PM PDT

To celebrate the debut of their new Heritage Frames eye wear collection, Armani put together a blogger-photographed street style project called Frames of Your Life, intended to capture real people wearing their shades. It’s a “more than just sunglasses” deal, okay? It’s a “frame” of one’s life, captured in a photographer’s lens while wearing Armani’s frames. Get it?

Despite the kitschy tag line on the project’s website, the project is quite impressive: Armani has used well known and respected bloggers (like Tommy Ton) whose photographs are gorgeous. So far, they’ve captured subjects in ten cities.

Click through to see our favorite shots, and check out Frames of Your Life for profiles on the bloggers and their cities.

Trendspotting: Arizona Muse as Muse

Posted: 02 Jun 2011 02:30 PM PDT

Arizona Muse is without a doubt the model to beat. She burst onto the scene during the Spring 2011 season, with her only visible credit being an Urban Outfitters online model, and has yet to slow down. Dazed and Confused dedicated an entire issue to her, which means that she’s in the popularity realm of Agyness Deyn circa 2008 when i-D identified the pixie hair model as an icon.

Just as Aggy spurned a flock of bleach blonde cropped followers, Muse has created a “look” that other models and stylists are trying to embody. Models on shopbop.com and jcrew.com have Muse’s high cheekbones, doe eyes, and soft jawline. (J. Crew even uses Muse and her son as models, so they’re familiar with her looks.) Up-and-coming model Emily Senko, who doesn’t resemble Muse in real life, is styled on the cover of Marie Claire Italia to show off her Muse-like features, specifically her doe eyes and soft cheeks.

You know it’s a trend when Vanessa Paradis, the living embodiment of that French je ne sais quoi, appears on the cover of Vogue UK styled with a messy crop of hair, emphasized eyes, and a new sweetness. Think it’s a coincidence? Think again. Vogue UK’s website just ran a slide show about Muse calling her “the season’s most in-demand model.”

So, I think this makes it official: Arizona Muse is the “It-model” of 2011.

Model/Designer Tori Praver On Her Latest Swimsuit Collection, Why She Never Wanted to Be a Model, and Her Most Embarrassing Bathing Suit Moment

Posted: 02 Jun 2011 02:00 PM PDT

If you haven’t heard of Tori Praver your boyfriend probably has. The blond bombshell from Hawaii has appeared in Sports Illustrated three times, and is a former Guess? girl. But if you’re in the market for a new bathing suit you’ve probably come across Tori’s name, too. The Maui native launched her eponymous line of swimwear in 2009. Her suits have earned a following because they’re versatile–from sexy one-pieces with cutouts to high waisted cutesy floral bikinis–so you don’t have to look like Tori to look good in them. But it helps that she can model her own lookbook.

Here’s what Tori had to say about modeling, designing, and bathing suit malfunctions (yes, they happen to her too).

Last Night’s Party: Tiffany Launches a New Site With Ed Burns and It’s All About L-O-V-E

Posted: 02 Jun 2011 12:44 PM PDT

On Wednesday night, Tiffany brought its signature blue to the Crosby Street Hotel to celebrate the launch of the jewelry brand’s new website–WhatMakesLoveTrue.com–its corresponding iPhone app, and a screening of a short film by Edward Burns made especially for the site. As fans of romance and fine jewelry, we popped by to see how the name synonymous with both interpreted “true love.”

There were turquoise platters filled heart-shaped blinis and mini cupcakes, and a photo booth where attendees could snap themselves against a blue heart background (presumably with a significant other) and either print the mementos or upload them to the web. It was pretty adorable, especially seeing couples cuddle up to take one. A particularly attentive touch was the choice of music. The DJs–DJ MOS and DJ Kiss–are newlyweds, having tied the knot in January after six years of dating. MOS said he thought the site was "an amazing, great idea. So helpful, especially for guys. We wanna know like, ‘how do I do this, am I doing it the right way?’”

So what exactly does the site do?

Is Marc Jacobs No Longer Cool and Relevant?

Posted: 02 Jun 2011 10:58 AM PDT

Marc Jacobs' is still one of the most highly anticipated shows of New York Fashion Week. But a New York Times profile of the impending CFDA Lifetime Achievement award recipient painted a bit less rosy picture of the designer's place in the fashion food chain.

First of all, this award is a bit of a double-edged sword. Yes, the industry is acknowledging all your contributions, but it's also sort of telling you that you're old and finished. And Marc gets this. He told the NYT's Ruth La Ferla: "Lifetime Achievement. That seems very final, like I'm done. But I'm not done."

The NYT then goes on to make a case that, yes, it seems like Marc Jacobs may be done. Or at least heading in that direction. The points of contention:

Quote of the Day: Karl Lagerfeld Says ‘F*** You’ to His Future Biographers, Calls them ‘Lazy Pigs’

Posted: 02 Jun 2011 10:30 AM PDT

“Today nobody's really found the real story… I don't have too much consideration for the poor people who try to write that book…it's interesting that people in fact are lazy. If they worked hard they would find interesting things. Nobody finds it! So I'm in a position to say 'Fuck you, you're all lazy pigs.' And I certainly won't help them!"

Karl Lagerfeld to Elle.com, when asked who he’d want to write his biography. Best of luck future Karl biographers!

Fashion News Roundup: Annie Leibovitz for Nike, FHM Apologizes to Andrej Pejic and a Dry Shampoo Website

Posted: 02 Jun 2011 10:02 AM PDT

Annie Leibovitz Shoots Nike Women’s Ad: The Nike Make Yourself campaign started last year as a girl power type promotion for women’s athleticism and sportswear; this year, they tapped Leibovitz’s recognizable epic photography for the ads, which star several female athletes including Maria Shirapova, dancer Sofia Boutella, and surfer Laura Enever. {WWD}

Jill Abramson Named New York Times Executive Editor: Abramson has been managing editor since 2003 and is now, with today’s replacement of Bill Keller, the first ever female executive editor of the newspaper. {NYTimes}

FHM Apologizes to Andrej Pejic: The men’s mag named the gender bending model the 98th Sexiest Woman… but also called him ‘thing’ in a truly insensitive bit of copy. The piece has since been taken down and an apology was issued, although it’s honestly a little pathetic given the offense. {Styleite}
