George Clooney to Sit Front Row at Armani?

Posted: 23 Sep 2010 07:00 AM PDT

George Clooney, who almost always wears Armani but refuses to comment on his wardrobe, might sit front row at the designer’s show, according to rumors circulating around Milano.

I typically don’t get giddy about celebrities–unless we’re talking about Food Network stars or Chuck Bass–but to get a glimpse of Gorgeous George is would be pretty exciting. I’m kind of jealous of Leah.

Other celebrities set to appear at Armani’s Monday show include Megan Fox (snore), husband Brian Austin Green (hilarious), and Jada Pinkett Smith (that’s nice).

Ashish Plays Cowboys and Indians For Spring 2011

Posted: 23 Sep 2010 06:00 AM PDT

LONDON–Once the last piece of mirrorball confetti hit the floor at Burberry, showgoers blinked their way into the sunlight smiling. It seemed to many that the crescendo of the week would also be a good place to end LFW—but anyone who continued down the show roster to Ashish was in for a treat.

If Giles flew the flag for kitsch Britannia with his show, Ashish answered with a Gaga-'n-Beyonce "Telephone"-video vision of the glitzy American West. The opening salvo of, "Don't f**k with me, fellas!" set the tone, telling us to expect to meet a good-time gun-slinger of a gal—someone ready to ride anywhere in her sequin-emblazoned bandanna top.

With the cow-print blazers, oversized paisley basketball shorts and flame-grilled motifs ALL in sequins, as well as boots hand-painted with cacti, horseshoes and McDonald's and Coca-Cola branding; and even tall Native American headdresses, the show was wild, but that was the point. Ashish always puts on a fun show—the models looked like they were having a great time, and front rowers' feet didn't stop bouncing to the tunes through the entire show.

Sure, it retreaded a bit of House of Holland ground. And no one there left praising the designer's restraint or muted palette. But someone will find a way to wear the midnight blue maxi with a v-back and suede fringing, and whoever she is will definitely have more fun than the tasteful lady at the next table.

So go on, wear only hot pink. Clash your prints. Cover everything in sequins. Break out your old trucker hat and stick a feather in it. And strut it like you're VV Brown.

10 Questions For The Rachel Zoe Project

Posted: 22 Sep 2010 02:00 PM PDT

1. Is “everything” the new “major/on another level/bananas?” Both the Chanel look at the Love shoot and the bag Rachel chose to wear with her Met Ball dress were "everything."

2. Why did Brad and Jordan have such (br)attitudes at the Love shoot? When they couldn’t fit the rolling rack into that weird shed, they could have just taken the clothes off, broken the rack down and put it back together inside. I’ve had to do much more annoying things at similar jobs.

3. Was anyone else thinking, ‘too much clavicle’ when Rachel put on that Marc dress? Otherwise, it was definitely a much better choice than the first one she tried on. Definitely cumbersome.

4. Is Brad all of a sudden admitting that he’s not cut out for his job? After being Team Zoe’s most eager beaver for the past few seasons, he laments, “I am so in love with my boyfriend and my dogs I feel like I want a lot more of that time."

Other quotes that might indicate Brad's dissatisfaction:

-"Hearing Rachel list off our schedule first thing in the morning, like, before I've even gotten the crusties out of my eyes is kind of like living in a nightmare."

-"I don't feel like I've had a break in about a year."

-"There's really never any time to breathe and I'm starting to feel suffocated."

-"I wonder if I can just call a taxi company and go home. Am I turning into Taylor?"

-"I have so much stuff to do." [buries face in hands]

5. Seriously, is Roger five? He literally stamped himself in a doctor’s office and said to a gynecologist, "I really wanted to see the stamp happen."

6. Did anyone notice the nice little collection of Just the Right Shoe figurines on the gynecologist's desk?

7. Why did Rachel feel so strongly about not taking a blood test? If she’s really so busy, wouldn’t she want to kill two birds with one stone? Why was it such an imposition at that moment?

8. Which one of Rachel's clients' Met Ball dresses was your favorite? We loved Annie's.

9. Once and for all, will Rachel actually have a baby? What do you think? In this episode, it seems like she's finally starting to get it; but if it's taken her this long to start listening to the people around her and realize she should, how long is it going to take her to actually do it? She certainly hasn't gotten preggers since the show finished taping. Adoption, perhaps?

10. Is Roger’s hair starting to look more normal or are we just getting more used to it?

Exclusive Photos: Madonna Gets Some Help From Steven Klein on the Set of Her New Movie

Posted: 22 Sep 2010 11:00 AM PDT

Photo by Christopher Peterson

Madonna’s been pretty tight-lipped about W.E., the movie’s she’s currently directing and co-wrote. The plot has something to do with King Edward VIII’s affair with American socialite Wallis Simpson (they later married), played by James D’Arcy and Abbie Cornish. And Lourdes Leone will be taking a break from blogging to make her acting debut in the film. It’s Madonna’s second time directing, and she told Interview that this film has a “bigger story” and will be “more layered and complicated” than Filth and Wisdom, her directorial debut.

For her second attempt at directing, Madonna is pulling out the big guns. Some exclusive photos sent to us by a tipster show that she’s getting some high profile high fashion help. Looks like famed fashion photog Steven Klein is giving her Madgesty some advice while on set in Brooklyn last week. Of course it’s not the first time Madonna and Klein have worked together. The two paired up for an exhibition back in 2003, and he shot her for several editorials. Hopefully this bodes well for W.E. making a bigger splash than Filth and Wisdom.

Fashion News Roundup: New Shoe Collabs, Terry Richardson’s Therapist and Too Many Celebs at Burberry?

Posted: 22 Sep 2010 10:00 AM PDT

Front Row Spillover: Burberry’s star-studded front row didn’t leave room for several major editors and it-girls. Hamish Bowles, Dree Hemmingway and other front row regulars were relegated to the second row. {Daily Front Row}

Shoe Shopping: Repetto, makers of super cute ballet flats and oxfords out of France, will have a shop-in-shop at Opening Ceremony. {Racked}

In other shoe news, Rad Hourani collaborated with Aldo on a line of shoes. The shoes are cool but not as affordable as they sound. {Refinery29}

Terrapy Time: Terry Richardson went to therapy yesterday. (Or, as he calls it, “Terrapy.” Get it?) Here is a picture of his therapist. {Terry Richardson’s Diary}

Evian is Still Fashionable:
Following in the footsteps of Christian Lacroix, Jean Paul Gaultier and Paul Smith, Issey Miyake has designed a bottle for Evian. The water retails for $7.99/bottle and is only available online and in Issey Miyake boutiques. We dare someone to only drink Issey Miyake-decorated Evian for a month (and no refilling!). {Styleite}

Marc by Marc for Moleskine:
I literally need this Marc Jacobs for Moleskine note book. I am a little surprised, though, that they’re only available at Barneys. Seems like this would be a perfect for Book Marc. {The Cut}

Eric Daman, Gossip Girl‘s One Redeeming Quality, Solves Your Dating Dillemas

Posted: 22 Sep 2010 09:00 AM PDT

While the quality of Gossip Girl's plot lines may be diminishing (Dan has a baby? Really?), the quality of the show’s wardrobe is definitely stable. With the tour de force that was Serena and Blair's summer in Paris, it might even be getting better. This is all thanks to Eric Daman, who might have the best job in the world. I mean, he gets to dress Chuck Bass.

Following two of Gossip Girl's strongest episodes to date (fashion-wise), we spoke to Eric about his amazing day job, Taylor Momsen, the only show he went to during fashion week, and his latest gig with Match.com providing first date outfit advice, some of which he was nice enough to share with us. (And FYI–if you want a free 7-day Match.com trial, click here)

What qualifies Daman for such a job? He draws an interesting comparison: "Like TV, most of your date will be from the waist up." (He recommends "something sparkly" like a necklace or earrings to decorate the oh so important above-the-waist area.) Whether or not your first date involves run-ins with Lou Doillon and balls with French dignitaries, there is no one better suited than Eric to dole out sartorial advice.

His first words of wisdom? "Guys love shoes as much as girls do," Eric insists, citing a poll that suggests a majority of men prefer that their date wear heels. However, he doesn't necessarily want all girls to dress like Blair Waldorf on the first date. Being yourself, and reflecting that with your attire, is more important. "I think women don't know to listen to themselves enough. Their inner voice is their best friend. I think its best to always be firm about who you are, because that’s who you want to project and who you want the person across the table to fall in love with."

Still, we want to know, what would Blair wear on a first date?

Blair would wear something very first date appropriate. Probably a really great sheath dress, something very Jackie O-inspired but revealing enough to show off a little bit of clavicle and collar bone and sleeveless. So there is a sexiness to it without giving away too much.

And Serena?

She kind of wears whatever she wants. I think she'd wear skinny jeans and a really great pair of pumps and maybe a boyfriend blazer and a bold tank top and some layered necklaces and of course that fabulous blond hair.

Jenny?

It depends on which Jenny we're talking about. We've seen so many incarnations of Jenny. She might wear a little black dress, but then accessorize it with her leather motorcycle jacket, so that it feels appropriate to her but feels a little more dressed up.

How did you style Blair and Serena differently in Paris, compared to New York?

We really wanted to turn it up a couple of notches and use couture and things we couldn't really use as daywear in New York City. I wanted it to feel like the girls were kind of beamed from planet Gossip Girl into Paris so that it still felt like the Gossip Girl world. It's Blair 2.0, Serena 2.0. It's more glittery and over the top but still stays true to who the characters are. In the first episode, Blake is wearing a Georges Chakra couture dress worth $35,000 with a grey rag & bone blazer and a little straw hat and some flats. It's kind of crazy that she's wearing this great hand-beaded dress around all day with flats but it kind of makes sense.

As you mentioned, Jenny's character has changed and evolved, perhaps the most. How have you reflected these changes in her wardrobe?

She's gone through several changes but I think it follows who Taylor is in real life. Both Taylor and Jenny were 13 when they started and had to grow up in this [show] and become 16 years old and 17 years old. They try to be a little more outrageous or they have a lot of teen angst or they're bad girls and then they're really good girls and always trying to push the boundaries.

In the beginning, Jenny was a very Molly Ringwald Pretty in Pink-inspired character, sitting in Brooklyn making her own dresses to try and fit in with the upper east siders until her dad married Lily and she was actually going to be in the upper east side. She could have access to Phillip Lim and Oscar de la Renta and Alexander Wang. And all of that kind of made sense to who she had projected herself to be. At the end of the series, she became this Brooklyn rocker chick that maybe spoke to who her dad was and his rock past….

Do the actors ever give their input? Are any actors ever like, “no I won't wear this”?

No, we don't have that, I really have a great relationship with all of them. I think its really important to have a dialogue and share interest in the costumes with the actors. I'm there to help them create their character. If they don't like something then I am totally fine with that and not everything in that room is something that I collected and feel very confident with. If they have an idea, I'm really open to that because they have to project who they are going to be in that scene.

Which character is the most fun to dress?

I have to say Chuck Bass is a delight to dress. To create a men’s look based on this Oscar Wilde-inspired dandy and have Ed embody that has been really been a joy. And to see men in bow ties all over the city, it's been great because I think men need a lot more help dressing than women do and I think a lot of men have stigmas about certain colors and wearing bow ties. I think seeing this millionaire kid in New York running around with all these strippers has made it ok for a guy to run around wearing a bow tie and feel cool.

Eric's been so busy on set, he hadn't even seen most of the Spring 2011 collections. The only show he attended was Jenny Packham. Why, you might ask? Well, Serena will wear one of her gowns for next week's all-important Fashion's Night Out episode.

Louise Goldin’s Knits are So Good, Donatella Wants Them For Herself

Posted: 22 Sep 2010 08:00 AM PDT

LONDON–I ran in and out of Louise Goldin‘s intimate presentation at St. Martins Lane, mostly because I felt feverish, but also because, well, there wasn’t much to see.

Yet this was most certainly a positive. The celebrated designer decided to pare things down this season. There were just a few looks in four colorways: red, black, white, and nude.

Maybe Goldin’s restraint had something to do with her late October plans. The designer will launch a Swarovski-sponsored film with ShowStudio‘s Nick Knight. However, the film won’t just show off Goldin’s Spring 2011 wares. It will allow 80 random individuals to “direct” the model in the film via Skype. (You can enter to be one of 80 by emailing louisegolding@showstudio.com with your Skype username and email. If you’re chosen, ShowStudio will email you 72 hours before the event with instructions.)

It might also be a simple reaction to the colorful digital prints sent down nearly every runway these days. Goldin recently called the collection “sports couture” in an interview with British publication Stylist, and that description makes perfect sense. It was all very body con, with lots of stretchy, sheer panels, and a patent panel here and there. The diamond pattern on one dress gave the impression of a print without being print-like.

More than anything, it was polished, slick, professional. And it seems that one bold faced fashion name in particular has taken notice: Donatella Versace. According to Style.com writer Meenal Mistry’s Twitter account, Goldin has begun designing knitwear for the label. Her work will appear on the Versace runway at Milan Fashion Week.

Maybe New York’s designers spent their summers rock climbing or bungee jumping, because harnesses seem to be having a moment.
