Exclusive: Elizabeth & James Spring 2011 Lookbook

Posted: 09 Nov 2010 06:11 AM PST

To say that we would wear every, single thing in Elizabeth & James’ Spring 2011 collection would not be an overstatement. Designers Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen, also behind that little brand The Row, have gone Parisian for spring, as evident in this exclusive preview of their lookbook. There’s a sheer mint blouse, a blush gypsy dress, as well as silk shorts, pants, and blazers in a range of muted colors. Very Clémence Poésy, if you ask us.

The highly-anticipated sunglasses range is also on full display, and it’s priced between $155 to $265. What’s so incredible about Elizabeth & James–other than the fact that the clothes are so good and reasonably-priced–is the breadth of categories they cover. Elizabeth & James currently encompasses women’s apparel, shoes, jewelry, eyewear and the more casual, denim-centric division: TEXTILE Elizabeth & James.

Doutzen Kroes Ties the Knot!

Posted: 08 Nov 2010 05:57 PM PST

Over the weekend, Doutzen Kroes and her boyfriend Sunnery James showed their love and devotion to each other by getting married! In front of 30 close friends and family in her hometown of Eastermar, Doutzen and Sunnery began their life together as husband and wife.

For the ceremony, Doutzen chose to wear a white strapless wedding dress by Spanish designer Pronovias, complete with a veil accenting her loose curls.

Sunnery proposed in January and the couple announced that they were expecting their first child in July. While the newly married pair will be spending their honeymoon vacationing on an island north of Madagascar, Doutzen's bringing her charitable spirit to the idea of gifts. Instead of weding presents, she's asked that donations be made to dance4life or the World Wildlife Fund.

Congratulations Doutzen and Sunnery!

Brenda Walsh’s Top Ten Lipsticks

Posted: 08 Nov 2010 03:03 PM PST

Shannen Doherty has a new book out called Badass. It’s 200 plus pages of advice from the former 90210 star on, well, how to be a badass. Like why you should shave: “How hard is it to shave your legs and armpits? Is it really just too much to go to the waxer once a month? And how hard is it to shut the bathroom door? Let me put it to you this way: If your boyfriend or husband casually sat on your face and let out the smelliest, loudest fart in the world, and then just got up as if it had never happened, and he did this regularly, would you still find him hot? No, you would not. So why on earth would he find you sexy when he can see and hear your bathroom habits? … Why should he have sandpaper scraping his body all night in bed? Why should he wonder how he ended up with a gorilla instead of the beautiful woman he fell in love with? … There is no excuse for not taking care of yourself.”

There are also some handy top ten lists, Jezebel found. Like Doherty’s top ten “badass lipstick shades.” Here they are:

1. Mac Russian Red
2. Chanel Provocative
3. Bobbi Brown Silver Haze
4. Revlon Black
5. MAC Bombshell
6. Chanel Crazed
7. Chanel Mystery
8. L’Oréal Divine Wine
9. MAC Dare You
10. Nars Orgasm

Do you agree with her list?

Geren Lockhart Visits Doris Duke’s Shangri-La: We’re Jealous

Posted: 08 Nov 2010 02:30 PM PST

Designer Geren Lockhart, of Geren Ford fame, is traveling up a storm this autumn, and she’s decided to tell Fashionista readers all. The first installment of “Travels with Geren” takes us to Hawaii. Next week, she’s visiting New York City….

When/Where:
Honolulu, October 29-31

Why:

I love a quick getaway to Hawaii–Oahu is actually my favorite island. There are more tourists, but along with that comes a great deal more going on. Plus, it’s the capital of the state, so there’s a good bit of local fun to check in on. Oahu also has some of my favorite beaches in the world.

Best Meal:
Dinner at Town: They use mostly local ingredients and the menu that changes daily. Townkaimuki.com

Most Interesting Discovery:

I finally got to take the tour of Doris Duke’s estate Shangri-La–it’s an amazing estate and collection of Islamic artifacts. A building and grounds that will stay with me forever, I feel so lucky to have been able to see her world. It’s extremely generous of her to have willed it to the public through a foundation. It’s like my version of Willy Wonka’s Chocolate Factory. I went days ago and am still spinning creatively.

What did you buy?

  • T-shirts and stickers for my friend’s son, Max, at Matsumoto’s Grocery Store, so that he can be the surf-chic kid in Chicago.

  • Every book I could find on Doris Duke or Shangri-La.
  • Kona coffee and Grand Cafe sauces for the wonderful people watching my pup Quinn .
  • Life Black Q-Tips from Japan, they stock them at longs drugs in Hawaii but not here in the states, and I’ve searched high and low on the internet. So when I am there I clean out the shelves. They’re just so good, and chic at the same time, and only $2.99.

Round-Up: Our Favorite New(ish) Lip Balms

Posted: 08 Nov 2010 02:00 PM PST

It's November now. This means that chapped, dry, flaky lip season is upon us. There are tons of tried-and-true lip balms out there. Kiehl's has been a sought-after classic for years. Rosebud Salve is a favorite of makeup artists everywhere because of its multi-functionality. Burt's Bees Beeswax was one of the first green offerings, and it's got a following that can no longer be called "cult." Aquaphor is the serious brand recommended by dermatologists. And of course—there's Carmex.

These are all fantastic, but if you need a new fix for your lips, here's a round-up of our faves. They include organic, natural, and multi-purpose products.

We did a lot of swiping and wiping for you–now go find someone to kiss.

Marni Re-releases Vintage Pieces Online Only

Posted: 08 Nov 2010 01:06 PM PST

For a limited time, Marni is selling what they’re calling “vintage” pieces from past collections online, the Independent is reporting. Though the pieces, from the early oughts, can hardly be considered “vintage” (the label only launched in 1994), it’s a clever stunt to keep die hard fans happy by offering them a chance to get one-of-a-kind pieces and clear out inventory.

The offerings are classic, quirky Marni, in the label’s signature colors (brown, blush, matte yellows and dark teals) and prints (geometric, polka dotted). So if you worship the cult of Marni and have deep pockets (“vintage” doesn’t mean discounted prices, sadly) get shopping. The collection will only be available until December 2.

Take a look.

Life With Ryan Korban and Davinia Wang of Edon Manor!

Posted: 08 Nov 2010 12:10 PM PST

If you live in New York and you happen to prefer Alaia and Proenza over Aldo and Payless–even if it’s just to look at–you’ve probably heard of Tribeca boutique Edon Manor. Launched in 2007, the beautifully furnished, beautifully stocked shop attracts those chasing after the perfect pair of Giambattista Valli pumps but aren’t willing to hike all the way uptown to Bergdorf to get them. (The boutique also happens to be right around the corner from Locanda Verde–one of our favorite restaurants in the city–and Smith & Mills, a favorite bar.)

Now the team behind Edon Manor wants to get to know shoppers outside of their New York City niche a little bit better. Owners Ryan Korban and Davinia Wang recently launched their gorgeous e-commerce boutique, Edonmanor.com. I recently sat down with the duo to discuss what it’s like to build a luxury boutique in the midst of a recession, and how to maintain unexpected success.

Fashionista: I'd like to hear how you guys got together. How did you two meet?

Would You Rather…? The Gold Standard Edition

Posted: 08 Nov 2010 11:59 AM PST

Gold is apparently the color for December in the UK.

Vogue UK features both Lara and Freja in shimmering gold, while Harper’s Bazaar UK styled Natalia in a more subtle gold hue. And of course that gold balmain dress has turned up everywhere, including on Anne Hathaway on the cover of Elle UK. Which look do you prefer?
