Stella McCartney Kids: The Complete Lookbook Posted: 03 Nov 2010 07:00 AM PDT We went gaga over Stella McCartney’s kids clothes for Gap. Now the top designer has created an underage collection for her own brand. (You can buy it on Stellamccartneykids.com.) We’re already plotting ways to make these clothes work for our adult bodies. And if you were wondering whether Stella would be upping the price point to an unreal number, the answer is no. The clothes aren’t cheap, but they’re not too expensive either. (Think $57 for a pair of jeans, $72 for a silk-cashmere blend cardigan.) Click through to see the adorable lookbook. This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |

Agyness Deyn and Her Model Friends Fete the Launch of Naag.com Posted: 03 Nov 2010 05:00 AM PDT Monday's naag.com launch party at Mary Queen of Scots felt less like a "fashion party" and more like a bunch of cool kids hanging out at a hip LES bar–in a good way. If you're wondering what naag.com is, I think it is best described on the site’s Who We Are page: "Naag is Fiona and Aggy and our friends. Talking about things we live and do and see and feel. We live in New York and like to hang out." That also pretty much sums up the party. And if its attendees were any indication, their friends are people like Karen Elson, Coco Rocha, Seth Meyers, Christian Siriano, Becka Diamond, Rebecca Minkoff, Eddie Borgo, and, according to the tip sheet, an incognito Marion Cotillard. Officially, Fiona Byrne is editor in chief and Agyness Deyn is creative director. Right now, most of the content is New York-based, but the girls intend to have something for their followers across the pond very soon and they don't plan to stop there. Agyness, who is ridiculously sweet, charming and gorgeous in person, told us, "Next week we're going to London and we're launching the UK content, so it's going to be both. It will be separate content, so if you're gonna go to London you can look at all the restaurants, the music, the fashion or if you're in New York you can do the same. Then, we're going to expand it to different cities around the world." But don't worry–Agyness has no plans to quit modeling. "This is just fun and it's gotten to a place where Fiona's running it a lot so I can still model and do it at the same time." Still, her runway presence has diminished significantly. (Supposedly, she only walked Wang’s show because he killed a cockroach for her..) "I'm being very selective, which I like because then when I do work, I absolutely love it, you know?" I asked if there were certain designers she favors and she explained, "It's not really the designer, it's the pieces, like if there's a collection that really stands out. I really like Alex Wang and Proenza…It depends on what they're doing." From what I can gather, being selective is something Agyness has a knack for. Naag is full of great recommendations, from shoes to nail polish to movies to concerts. And everything is written in a personal, conversational tone–not in an obnoxious, spell-check-be-damned, Lourdes way–but in a charming, excited way that makes you feel like your really cool, in-the-know bff is telling you about her new favorite things. We definitely recommend checking it out. This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |
Top Ten Looks from the Lanvin x H&M Collaboration Posted: 02 Nov 2010 03:01 PM PDT If you couldn’t tell, we just can’t get enough of Lanvin Hearts H&M! From the incredibly produced video to the special editors pre-sale event, we’re head-over-heels for Alber’s newest venture. H&M and Lanvin seem to be just as excited as we are, because they’ve created a ton of content to keep buyers and bloggers busy swooning over. The unsung hero of today’s Lanvin-apalooza is the stellar look book starring Irina Lazareanu. Showing each look styled to perfection in an opulent hotel room, Irina gives Jamie Bochert’s SS10 Lanvin ads a run for their money in the category of most dramatic. Here we’ve compiled our favorite looks from the lookbook that we’ll be emulating when we get our hands on Lanvin Hearts H&M. This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |

Donatella and Tavi Are Among Glamour’s Women of the Year Honorees Posted: 02 Nov 2010 01:00 PM PDT Today Glamour magazine announced the winners of its 20th annual Women of the Year awards. There are two honorees from the fashion industry and not a whole lot of surprises. The methodology behind Glamour‘s choices seems to involve a ratio of fame, successful projects and charitable undertakings. Donatella Versace is among ten winners from the worlds of entertainment, business, sports, fashion and politics. Other winners include December cover girl Fergie, Cher, Julia Roberts and Queen Rania of Jordan. Glamour is also giving “special recognition” to 20 young women who are “already changing the world.” Everyone’s favorite 14-year-old blogger, Tavi Gevinson, is one of them. The winners will be honored next Monday, November 8 at an awards gala at Carnegie Hall. We will be there and really, really hope Donatella graces us with her fabulousness. Quote of the Day: Fashion Breaks Kanye West’s Heart Posted: 02 Nov 2010 12:39 PM PDT Kanye West was named “Stylemaker of the Year” by the Accesories Council last night at Cipriani. He gave an amazing acceptance speech and Vulture transcribed the whole thing. It’s too good not to quote in full (but I’ve bolded the best parts):
No wait, there’s more…

More Lanvin x H&M News: A Post-Fashion Show Shopping Party for New York Editors! Posted: 02 Nov 2010 12:00 PM PDT Lanvin x H&M hits stores worldwide on November 23. However, on Nov. 18, New York fashion editors will attend a runway show featuring the “haute couture” collaboration. (At least that’s how the invitation reads.) It’s all happening at the Pierre Hotel, as we previously reported. But here’s the new news: Post-show there will be a pop-up store where invitees will get to shop the collection. We’ll be tweeting from the trenches. Are you going, too? What’s your plan of attack? This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |
Posted: 02 Nov 2010 11:28 AM PDT Carmex. It’s one of the best beauty products around and it wasn’t dreamed up in some expensive lab after years of research, it’s got no exotic hard to find ingredients, and there’s nothing French about it. Carmex was created in Wauwatosa, Wisconsin and since 1937, it has been soothing the chapped lips of everyone who has to experience the indignity and unpleasantness of winter. If you've ever endured the 20-below-zero windchill of a Chicago winter, you know what I'm talking about. It's hell on the skin and especially the lips. Traditional Carmex comes in a little white pot with a yellow lid emblazoned with its red banner logo and the very unsexy words "FOR COLD SORES." Someone in the marketing department recently got wise and toned that down a bit, though. It used to be in big black block letters, but now it's in red in a smaller font. But subtlety is not in Carmex's DNA. In addition to the stark packaging which announces that you might have cold sores, it also stinks to high heaven. I associate the scent with only good and comforting things, but a newbie (or potential mate) may not. When you open the pot, you're assaulted by a minty medicinal smell, and by a goopy product that is, tragically, an ear waxy yellow. But if you're brave enough to dip your fingertip in and apply it to your mouth, you're in for a treat. A lot of relief and prevention comes in that little 0.25 oz. jar. In addition to the iconic pot, Carmex also comes in a tube that squirts out and in a Chapstick-like stick. I was also really surprised to see it offered in a silver cylinder masquerading as a lip gloss this year. It's even tinted! While I welcomed the addition of a cherry flavor and SPF 15 in recent years, I'm not going for the fancy tinted edition. I like my Carmex old school. The company offers branded t-shirts, mugs, and, uh, skateboards (Yes, Carmex skateboards.) They also collaborated with Keds on a pair of slip-on sneakers decorated with "Carmex kisses." But I think I'll just stick to Carmex jars in every bag I own. Oh, it also claims on the site that Carmex is not addictive. I beg to differ. Posted: 02 Nov 2010 10:04 AM PDT I want to be a Thom Browne girl: Surprise?! As far as we know, this is the first look at Thom Browne’s upcoming line for women. Of course, it’s amazing. {Jak & Jil} Google’s Trend Tracker: You can now track consumer interest in trends or brands on Google. The company, which has become increasingly fashion-conscious, demonstrates in their retail advertising blog how search queries can be traced and graphed over time and based on location. For example, most fashion trend-related searches grow in places like New York and Los Angeles and then spread throughout the rest of the country. Pretty cool. {Google via Blackbook} Stylelist Breakup: AOL’s Stylelist is losing style news editor Susannah Cahn and senior beauty editor Laura Kenney. No news on where they’re going. {Business Insider} Kate Moss is just like us: She got bored and cut her own bangs–with kitchen scissors. {Fashionologie} Queer Eye for the Small Town Guy: Oprah’s new television network, OWN, just released their program schedule for next year and we knew there would be something fashion-related. In addition to The Judds and Ryan and Tatum: The O'Neals, there will be Carson-Nation, in which former Queer Eye for the Straight Guy fashion “expert” Carson Kressley “travels to small towns to transform lives.” {The Hollywood Reporter} A Foodie Holiday: Simon Doonan discusses his plans for food-themed Barneys holiday windows and it sounds amazing. Plus, he says things like, "I'm interested in the dissonance between fashion and food. Whenever we do an event, the fashion people say, 'No food please. Let's just serve vodka.’” The windows will be unveiled November 16. {The Moment} Marc’s Personal Collections: Wondering what kinds of things Marc Jacobs collects? Turns out it’s not just kilts. {The Inside Source} This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |
