This Weekend’s Top Weekender Bags Posted: 02 Jul 2010 03:30 PM PDT I’m a sucker for a good weekender bag. There are so many excellent ones out there–from the preppy to the minimalist to the, dare I say, directional. (As directional as a weekender can get.) Given that it’s a holiday weekend, I’m assuming plenty of you are heading off to a family barbecue, a country cabin, or most likely, the beach. Maybe a combination of all three. I, for one, am writing this on a plane to Chicago. (Yes, American Airlines has Wi-Fi at every altitude!) One thing’s for sure: Whether you want to spend $10 or $10,000, no one should be without a sturdy, good-looking weekender. Now, for some options: |

Best Dressed: Julianne is Elegant in Erdem while Kirsten and Camilla Sport Sweet Sundresses Posted: 02 Jul 2010 12:45 PM PDT This week, the beautiful Julianne Moore wore a gorgeous Erdem gown while Camilla Belle kept it short and sweet in Dior. Kirsten Dunst took a casual stroll through SoHo in an awesome Miu Miu dress while another blond rocked the red carpet in blue Rodarte. Freida Pinto can’t not look gorgeous, but this Oscar de la Renta number certainly doesn’t hurt. |

Posted: 02 Jul 2010 10:04 AM PDT Model Behavior: Modelinia polls some of their favorite models about their plans for this holiday weekend… and many of them aren’t as glamorous as you might think. {Modelinia} A Slick New Look: Proenza Schouler drops its latest web-exclusives– an “oil slick” necklace and bracelet. Too bad it reminds us of the state of the Gulf….Poor timing? {Proenza Schouler} Stupid Is As Stupid Does: Diesel’s “Be Stupid” ads got a lot of attention when they debuted in the U.S. back in March, but it seems the U.K. is not a fan. The campaign has been banned by the UK’s Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) for indecency and for fear they could “be seen by children and might encourage bad behavior.” Ok, U.K., you hold on to your “Keep Calm And Carry On”; we’ll keep our “Be Stupid.” {The Huffington Post} Fashion For The Younger Set: Fendi partners up with Simonette SpA to present a children’s line for kids up to 12-years-old. Oh well, it was bound to happen sooner or later. {The Cut} |
Crystal Renn, Still A Ten, Agent Confirms Posted: 02 Jul 2010 09:23 AM PDT There’s a bit of buzz building over “plus-size” model Crystal Renn’s latest photographs for non-profit Fashion for Passion. HuffPo said she looked “shockingly svelte” and The Frisky headlined their post about the photos, “Crystal Renn, Full-Figured No More?” It’s true, in this Nicholas Routzen-shot campaign, Renn does appear to look thinner. So we called up her agent at Ford to get the scoop. Has Renn, an outspoken critic of the modeling industry’s size-0 standard, dropped weight? Dakin implied that Renn may be more toned because she’s gotten into hiking after a recent trip to Patagonia. But the bottom line is that she’s healthy. “She’s an amazing model,” says Dakin. “She can make herself look bigger or smaller depending on what the client wants.” At the crux of this thing is the media’s love for a good “size story” (not that we’re exempt, of course). Why do we care? Why can’t Crysal Renn just be a gorgeous model instead of a plus-size model, or a plus-size model who is (gasp) too thin and maybe not plus-size anymore? Renn has a loud voice in the industry, and hopefully she’ll continue to use it to shake off the labels attached to her and other models who aren’t sample size. But until then, we buzz. |
Posted: 02 Jul 2010 08:00 AM PDT It’s no secret that Fashionista loves Dana Lorenz and her jewelry line, Fenton/Fallon. She just unveiled her Fall 2010 collection, and we stopped by her boutique to drool over it. Her signature touches and familiar DNA are still there, but tweaked. Chunky base metal chains are wrapped and stacked, sometimes mixed with Swarovski crystals. We loved a simple white metal three-chain sculptured necklace. Her signature bow is there, but in a slightly more linear style. A wing motif is present, but lighter and airier and unadorned. The best part? If you’re stuck in NYC this weekend or lucky enough to be visiting–it’s all perspective–Dana will give you 15% off her new Fall pieces today through Saturday July 3. You have to come to her store in Freeman’s Alley to get the discount. It’s worth the trip, trust me. There is also still tons of spring merch available, and it’s all on sale, too. Prices run from $80-$160 for rings and earrings; $120-$150 for bracelets; and $170-$300 for necklaces. |
Adventures in Copyright: Lucky Brand Claws at Céline’s Clog Posted: 02 Jul 2010 07:00 AM PDT As the tipster who sent in this AIC lamented, we’re surprised it didn’t happen sooner. Lucky Brand, best known for its denim, has created a clog for summer. No surprise, right? Clogs are the shoe of the season, if not the year, and finding a pair for $99 is definitely a good thing. Except when the affordable version is just a cheap knockoff. Lucky’s “Lesh” shoe is a direct replica Céline’s summer style, right down to the three round studs tacking the leather onto the wooden heel and thin rubber sole. The slight differences: Céline’s hardware is gold-colored, while Lucky’s is silver. And the leather on the Lucky shoe is a darker brown (and dare we say, much less attractive.) We think we’ll skip this design altogether and save our pennies for a pair of Swedish Hasbeens. You can’t get more authentic than that, right? |
