Is Pepsi Angling to Replace Diet Coke as the Fashion Industry’s Drink of Choice? Posted: 18 Jan 2011 03:37 PM PST Diet Coke has long been the fashion industry’s drink of choice. It’s basically like water for fashion folk. The industry, has of course, embraced their carbonated beverage of choice in very visible ways–we’re looking at you Kaiser Karl. Karl Lagerfeld famously credited his weight loss in 2001 to a diet of Diet Coke and steamed veggies and was once spotted on a shoot with a butler standing by holding a goblet full of Diet Coke. Most recently, back in April, Lagerfeld designed a special bottle for Coca-Cola Light in France adorned with his iconic silhouette. He also shot their ad campaign, featuring Coca Rocha and Baptiste Giabiconi. Matthew Williamson, Manolo Blahnik, Nathalie Rykiel and Roberto Cavalli have all designed limited edition Coca Cola Light bottles as well. But now it seems Diet Pepsi is trying to grab their share of the fast-growing fashion market. Today we received a four-pack of Diet Pepsi’s new “skinny” cans which hit shelves in March. “The new sleek packaging is meant to offer a sassy new way for people to enjoy their beloved Diet Pepsi. The new cans are fashionable and are sure to be the hot new fashion accessory this Spring!” read a release. Get it? Because the cans are skinny, just like what everyone in fashion aspires to be. Diet Pepsi did have their fashion moment in the sun with those iconic Cindy Crawford commercials back in 1990. Let’s relive it. Tibi Recognizes Editors For Their Street Style With Personalized Stationery Posted: 18 Jan 2011 02:29 PM PST Here’s proof editors-as-style-stars are influencing designers: Tibi‘s Amy Smilovic used street style shots of five editors known for their unique style and created personalized stationery for them as gifts. But if you’re not lucky enough to be Italian Elle‘s Eva Fontanelli, Teen Vogue‘s Jane Keltner deValle, Elle‘s Kate Lanphear, Teen Vogue‘s Mary Kate Steinmiller, or Marie Claire‘s Taylor Tomasi Hill, you can purchase standard Tibi stationary decorated with adorable illustrations of girls in frothy dresses in Tibi stores or at Tibi.com. Check it out–we’ve got to admit, the stationery is pretty cute. Follow Fashionista on Twitter or become a fan on Facebook. This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |

Teen Vogue Invites Bloggers to WWDMagic, Launches a Personal Style Blog Network Posted: 18 Jan 2011 01:16 PM PST Fashion industry trade shows can often be an overwhelming and tedious experience for attendees who must navigate through a thousand plus booths of designers, hawking their latest creations. This year, WWDMagic, the Las Vegas-based show, has partnered with Teen Vogue to bring the event to a much, much bigger audience. They’ve invited 30 bloggers–including Jane Aldridge of Sea of Shoes and Erica Domesek of P.S. I Made This along with a slew of up-and-comers–to participate in panels, trend reporting, video segments, and competitions as part of a Blogger Concourse Lounge during the three day show (February, 14 – 16, 2011). Teen Vogue will also use the lounge to promote the launch of their personal style blogger network Fashion Click. (Lucky, by the way, is also launching its own blog network.) Much like Tumblr’s own coverage of NYFW, coverage of the bloggers’ trip will be aggregated to one page: Wwdmagic.tumblr.com. Three Korean Beauty Brands To Try Posted: 18 Jan 2011 12:40 PM PST Japan has long had a reputation for producing amazing cosmetics and skin care lines (Shiseido and Shu Uemura, anyone?) but another Asian country has been quietly infiltrating the US market lately. Look to Korea for new beauty innovations coming down the pipeline. I was talking to a friend who's a veteran marketer in the beauty industry. She thinks Americans have this idea that Asians have perfect, flawless skin. Now, this friend also happens to be Korean-American…and she has perfect, flawless skin. I'm not stereotyping here. Just saying. You can't find Korean brands on every drugstore shelf yet, but it may be headed that way. Amore Pacific, a company based in Seoul, owns about 15 different makeup and skincare brands, a few of which have some exposure here in the US. If you've not heard of Amore Pacific, you will soon. WWD recently listed them as number 20 in their list of 100 top beauty companies. Most of the company's business right now is in Korea and China, but in 2009 the company's US business increased by 25%. The Amore Pacific brand offers skincare under the Amore Pacific label and a very high end line called Sulwhasoo. Etude is a younger, cheaper makeup and skincare line. Oddly, the company also owns the Lolita Lempicka fragrance brand. Posted: 18 Jan 2011 11:19 AM PST Alber Elbaz Steals Our Heart Again: To celebrate the upcoming summer wedding of Prince Albert of Monaco to Charlene Wittstock, Elbaz has teamed up with the Hotel Métropole Monte-Carlo in Monaco to create a romantic package for two that features Elbaz-designed cocktails and treats, a Lanvin Gift, and helicopter ride over the French Riviera. Swoon. Jimmy Choo For Dudes: All the men out there who have ever envied a woman’s shoe collection can now sport their own Jimmy Choo’s. Tamara Mellon has designed a men’s line that includes a range of high tops, biker boots, gentleman’s evening slippers, and even those croc Hunter wellies. The collection will be available to order online in July. An Abrupt End to Tao Comme Des Garcons: Tao Kurihara's Spring/Summer 2011 collection shown in Paris last October will unfortunately be her last. The designer will instead focus on the Tricot Comme Des Garcons label shown twice a year in Tokyo. Glamour + Garance + Jane + Mr. Louboutin = More News on That Mysterious Blogger Shoot Posted: 18 Jan 2011 09:40 AM PST Last week we told you about a mysterious blogger photo shoot involving Jane Aldridge, with Garance Dore serving as the photographer. The Sea of Shoes star wouldn’t reveal more than those two details, but we’ve done some digging to get the scoop. According to our sources, Aldridge was seen shooting at the Christian Louboutin boutique in New York’s Meatpacking District, and that the film permit said Glamour magazine. So, contrary to what we originally assumed, this might have been an actual editorial photo shoot. Or it could be the second promotional shoot Dore’s done for Glamour. Last year, it was a fantastic street style spread that ran as an advert in the magazine. Check Out Kristen Stewart’s Vogue Shoot, Outtakes Included Posted: 18 Jan 2011 09:12 AM PST Kristen Stewart‘s Vogue cover leaked last week and now the official cover story, plus photos from her spread, shot by Mario Testino, are up on Vogue.com. Vogue‘s cover girls are often made to look too “Vogue”–too sleek and plastic and photoshopped but Stewart looks every bit the angst-ridden 20-year-old we know and love on February’s cover. She looks beautiful, and a little miserable. Which is kind of how she looks on every red carpet. Stewart’s Vogue fittingly seizes on her love for Proenza Schouler.
