Now You Can Smell Like Jennifer Aniston

Lolavie is the name of Jennifer Aniston’s forthcoming fragrance.

She says the story behind the name is “a long story and honestly…too personal to tell," but like WWD points out it’s a pretty obvious play on l’eau la vie. Meanwhile, we’ve realized there’s a pretty solid formula to getting your own scent.

First, be gorgeous enough to get famous in the first place—it doesn’t really matter if you sing or dance or act or whatever, just be pretty enough to have a close up campaign of your face.

Then, and this might be the most important part, hold out on signing that multi-million dollar contract long enough to make the world say, “Wow, she’s been famous for 10, 15, 20 years and never signed a beauty deal, she must be really passionate about it!”

Third, when press comes calling say something like this, “It wasn't just about showing up for a shoot and putting my name on a bottle…I thought, 'This could be a creative expression.' And it's turned out to be an extension of myself as opposed to slapping my name on something."

It’s worked for Sarah Jessica Parker, Beyonce, Halle Berry, Julia Roberts and now Jennifer Aniston. Click through for a look at the campaign, shot in Mexico by Mario Sorrenti.

Estée Lauder Signs Liu Wen and Constance Jablonski as The Brand’s Newest Faces

Posted: 15 Apr 2010 03:31 PM PDT

Estée Lauder's just announced their newest brand ambassadors, Liu Wen and Constance Jablonski.

They’re both firsts—Liu’s the first Chinese model to be signed to the luxury beauty brand (and she was the first Asian model to walk the Victoria’s Secret runway, too). Meanwhile, Constance is the first French girl to land a Lauder campaign.

They round out the brand’s already perfect roster of spokesmodels including Hilary Rhoda, Carolyn Murphy, Elizabeth Hurley and Gwyneth Paltrow, and their campaigns will debut this June.

Aerin Lauder said, “Estée Lauder has always searched for global beauties that define a generation. Constance and Liu Wen are the beauties of our time. Both models have quickly captured the attention of the fashion and beauty world."

We’re not sure what exactly the two will endorse, but Liu’s porcelain complexion makes her the perfect skin care advocate, while Constance would be great for hair or makeup.

Taylor Jacobson’s Collection for Kasil

Posted: 15 Apr 2010 02:44 PM PDT

Taylor Jacobson left Rachel Zoe’s side last fall.

Since then, she’s popped up on E!, curated a pop up shop for Armani Exchange in LA, and landed an Everyday Minerals campaign.

In February, it was announced she’d be designing a capsule collection for LA based denim brand, Kasil, called “Workshop by Kasil” with its Creative Director David Lim.

The whole look book’s after the jump and it’s stretchy jean after stretchy jean, with a baggy t-shirt and some signature Taylor hair. It’s not terrible, but we know she can do better than this.

In Our Dreams Coachella’s Full of Chloé, Sunshine & Christopher Kane

Posted: 15 Apr 2010 02:06 PM PDT

We love Coachella for a number of reasons:

1. The music, of course.

2. The warm, sunny weather.

3. The phenomenal street-style.

We were this close to making it this year, but alas we’re stuck celebrating spring in New York. That doesn't mean we can't dream up the most romantic outfits possible though.

Click through to see our fantasy festival frocks!

Chloé's silk-chiffon dress is ideal for the breezy desert atmosphere. It's reminiscent of that '70s era Christopher Kane's SS10 collection was full of airy, dreamy dresses. This long-sleeved chiffon number is utterly charming. Kate loves the bra cups and square-neck and thinks this girlishly sexy dress is perfect for the warm spring weather. We're not sure what Lauren's dream Coachella outfit would be, but we do know that in reality, she would wear something a lot like this.

Britt’s outfit credits: Dress by Chloé. Vintage sunglasses by Christian Dior. Bag by Celine. Rings by Tiffany & Co. Gold watch by Rolex.

Kate’s outfit credits: Dress by Christopher Kane. Sunglasses by Cutler and Gross. Bracelet by Mark Davis. Large ring by Sevan. Silver ring by Cathy Waterman. Turquoise ring by Irene Neuwirth. Bag by Mulberry. Boots by Golden Goose.

Lauren’s outfit credits: Dress by Steven Alan. Backpack by Alexander Wang. Earrings by Jennifer Meyer. Bracelet by Dannijo. Sunglasses by Karen Walker. Shoes by TOMS.

Which May cover girl’s wearing a dress by one of America’s most beloved designers who didn’t actually design the dress? In fact, he didn’t know about it until the magazine hit newsstands.

Steve Madden Does Pierre Hardy for Gap, & Charges More

Posted: 15 Apr 2010 12:08 PM PDT

Pierre Hardy’s first Gap collection debuted a few years ago.

The brown sandal on the right was everywhere that summer—at least in New York. They cost about $90, which isn’t inexpensive for sandals, but is for Pierre Hardy. Anyone aged 13 to 60 could wear them, which means they also sold out within a week or two, and though Gap continues to put them in their print ads, they aren’t for sale anymore.

Meanwhile, we’ve noticed Steve Madden laying off the copying. Most of his shoes are still inspired by other designs, but he’s been deviating from the originals enough to keep us off his back (perhaps due to a lawsuit or two). Until now, of course.

Madden’s selling an identical copy of Hardy’s Gap sandal, and charging more, too.

Would Anyone Like to Rep the Backtacular Gluteal Cleft Shield?

Posted: 15 Apr 2010 11:03 AM PDT

This morning, the following pitch landed in the inbox of at least one reputable Manhattan PR agency:

To whom this may concern,
I am the designer of a product called the Backtacular gluteal cleft shield. It’s a hypoallergenic adhesive patch that is applied directly to the skin above the gluteal cleft area of the buttocks. The patch is made of denim with a rhine stone and/or rhine stud design. The product stops gluteal cleft exposure when wearing low rise apparel. The picture of Jennifer Garner below is courtesy of the TMZ ” Crack Is Wack” section of the TMZ website. The Backtacular Gluteal cleft patch is patent and trademark pending.
I would appreciate your consideration in taking my company on as a client.
Thank You,
Kimberly Brewer

The publicist who forwarded it on noted, “I just thought it was classy of her to name it “BACKtacular” instead of “CRACKtacular”. Somewhere, deep inside her core, she has SOME sense of decorum.”

We’ve checked out her site—you can purchase your own Backtacular Gluteal Cleft Shield for just $14.99—and it appears to be real. We’ve left out the picture of Jennifer Garner’s bottom that Kimberly was kind enough to include, but here’s a better look at the gluteal shields.

Models Can’t Contain Their Tweets on Karl’s Pirelli Calendar Set

Posted: 15 Apr 2010 07:59 AM PDT

Karl Lagerfeld’s hard at work on this year’s Pirelli calendar.

He’s ditched the beach for a Paris studio. Sam McKnight, Peter Philips and stylist George Cortina are on set with the usual gaggle of girls including usual faces including Heidi Mount, Natasha Poly, Iris, Lara and Magdalena.

Isabeli Fontana tweeted the picture at left from the set, but it was removed within minutes and word is Karl’s demanded the strictest secrecy.

The calendar won’t be revealed until November, in Moscow, but in between now and then Karl’s planning to make a short movie starring Heidi Mount and Chanel’s cruise collection in St. Tropez.

Ann Taylor’s Determined to Make LOFT Happen

Posted: 15 Apr 2010 07:02 AM PDT

Last night, Ann Taylor threw a party for LOFT at the Bowery Hotel.

Alexa Chung DJd, Henry Holland, Mena Suvari, Phillip Lim and Maggie Gyllenhaal hung out on the sidelines and a whole bunch of dudes waited for Ra Ra Riot to perform. Before you made it to the stage, you had to walk through their “Style Studio,” a few fall outfits styled by Kate Young, Tina Chai, Alia Ahmed-Yahia, and Joanne Blades.

About five people I spoke to didn’t know what the party was for, another three thought the clothes looked fantastic—particularly a faux fur gilet—and another one said, “It’s like they want to be J.Crew, but J.Crew is so inspired by other more high fashion things, so by the time you’re inspired by something else inspired, it has this weird watered down effect.”

I liked the clothes, and I’m impressed by the length to which they’re obviously willing to go to distance themselves from the Ann Taylor brand (a brand so dowdy my mom asks me, “Is this too Ann Taylor?” before buying anything from any store). To compete with J.Crew, they’ll need to do more than cuff their blazers and throw a fun party—but it’s a good start.
