Coach Honors Mother’s Day With a Sweet Facebook Campaign Posted: 01 Apr 2011 02:43 PM PDT When many of us think of Coach, we think of our moms’ penchant for those classic bags. So Coach is using that idea to further engage avid Facebook users, asking them to share their favorite “Coach and Mom” memories. The brand also asked some fashion editors and bloggers to participate, and since I’m very sentimental about Coach, I happily agreed. Posted: 01 Apr 2011 02:00 PM PDT Introducing Highlight, a new series in which we feature a photograph from a personal style or street style blog that perfectly demonstrates a trend, shows off particularly stand out style, or is just a great photo. And we’re talking beyond the Sartorialist and Fashion Toast here–we’re scouring the fashion blogosphere. Columbine Smille is one of my favorite bloggers. Columbine began her career as the assistant to Swedish TV presenter, H&M collaborator and stylist Elin Kling and the two Scandinavian style mavens have worked together ever since. Currently, Columbine is the fashion editor at Elin's new magazine, Styleby. In addition to taking photographs of her daily outfits and fabulous friends, Columbine also posts images of lust-worthy items that make it into the studio. Columbine is a true pro at mixing Celine with Asos, Miu Miu with Zara and Acne with Topshop. An insider bonus of following her site is being introduced to Swedish chain stores like Monki, Lindex and Gina Tricot. Style.com to Launch Print Spinoff (No, It’s Not an April Fools Joke) Posted: 01 Apr 2011 10:46 AM PDT AdWeek is reporting that Style.com is launching a print spinoff to launch in the fourth quarter–which means it would launch roughly sometime in October, after the spring shows. We thought it sounded a little April Fools-y–why would Conde Nast, who owns Fairchild Fashion Group, who owns Style.com, branch out with a new print mag? A commenter on the AdWeek story echoed the sentiment, “Please tell me this is an April Fool’s Joke? We have runway magazines…it’s call every edition of VOGUE that exists. Errr..don’t you own Style.com?” But we just received confirmation from a Fairchild Fashion Group spokesperson that the story is 100% true. The mag is an extension of the brand, the spokesperson tells us, and while it’s a “consumer play” from the mostly trade-focused publishing group, it’s not the sole focus of the new venture, as the AdWeek article suggest. Best Selling Celebrity Fragrances in the World Posted: 01 Apr 2011 10:00 AM PDT The news of Elizabeth Taylor’s death got us thinking quite a bit about celebrity fragrances, given that the Hollywood star’s White Diamonds is still the best-selling celeb fragrance collection in the world, bringing in $76.9 million globally in 2010. But what other celeb-backed scents have succeeded? While most are flash-in-the-pan occurrences, others have experienced ongoing success. So we asked Chicago-headquartered market research firm Euromonitor International who has risen to the top. Click through to see the world’s best selling famous fragrances. Rumor Denied: Chanel Really Does Like Blake Lively Posted: 01 Apr 2011 08:56 AM PDT A report earlier this week in the NY Daily News‘ gossip column Gatecrasher alleged that there were “internal grumblings” at Chanel HQ because folks thought Blake Lively was too “off-brand” to represent the label’s new Mademoiselle handbag line. Today, Chanel PR has denied the report in a statement to Vogue UK: “Blake’s spontaneity and fresh youthful image have convinced Chanel that she is the right person to represent the house and this range of bags.” So Blake Lively’s spell over the fashion industry holds. Last Night’s Party: Nike for Liberty of London Launch Party Posted: 01 Apr 2011 08:15 AM PDT LONDON–We showed you the styles, now it was time to toast their anticipated arrival. Last night, Liberty designated their 2nd floor to an elaborate installation space, marking Nike's third collaboration with its signature house prints. The soirée kicked off with cocktails and a nineties hip-hop soundtrack, as industry sportswear enthusiasts and the like gathered around a gigantic basketball hoop chandelier in the store's central atrium. Displaying the three styles–Air Force 1, Blazers and Dunks–in five different print stories derived from Liberty of London's extensive print archives, some also hung in golden orbits above decadent purple carpets. Dolce & Gabbana Acquitted of Tax Evasion Due to Lack of Evidence Posted: 01 Apr 2011 07:30 AM PDT Everyone’s favorite Italian design duo, Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana, were acquitted of tax evasion early today in an Italian court. Judge Simone Luerti said there wasn’t enough evidence to take the case to trial, and that’s that. Dolce & Gabbana were accused of failing to declare over 840 million euros ($1.1 billion) in sales.
