Posted: 29 Apr 2011 06:25 AM PDT As it turns out, all the McQueen rumors were true; Kate Middleton wed today in a stunning long-sleeved creation by Sarah Burton for Alexander McQueen. Burton and Middleton worked closely on the design of the dress, referencing English traditions and signatures of the McQueen brand. From the descriptions on the Official Royal Wedding Website, it is obvious that this design made full use of the unbelievable technique and skill of the McQueen atelier. Of the choice, the official site says:
The dress is made from hand-cut English lace, French Chantilly lace, and ivory and white satin gazar. The lace appliques were handmade by the Royal School of Needlework using a technique called Carrickmacross that originated in Ireland in the 1820s. The lace workers washed their hands every 30 minutes and replaced their needles every three hours to ensure that the lace remained pure white. The flowers designs in the lace are of actual flowers: rose, thistle, daffodil and shamrock. If you thought Kate Middleton looked curvier than usual, you’d be correct. Kate Middleton Dress Update: All Signs Point To McQueen Posted: 28 Apr 2011 04:07 PM PDT Here they are, the last of the dress rumors before we actually see Kate Middleton in her hysteria-inducing wedding dress: Someone who people think looks like Sarah Burton, creative director at Alexander McQueen, was snapped outside The Goring hotel where Kate Middleton is staying before her big day. Nice try wearing that hat Sarah! “Like the woman who arrived at the hotel at 3pm, three hours before Kate, Mrs Burton has a slender build, fair skin and favours loose-fitting, cropped blue trousers and flat ballet pumps,” the Daily Mail breathlessly reports. The rumors that Middleton would wed in McQueen started back in March, when London’s Sunday Times reported it and stood by their story despite denials from McQueen. But wait, there’s more. Andy Samberg Wants To Special Order a “Bejeweled Chastity Belt” From Irene Neuwirth Posted: 28 Apr 2011 03:11 PM PDT Former CFDA fashion funder Irene Neuwirth debuted her first ever diamond collection last night at Barneys. Neuwirth, whose jewelry designs feature colorful gems outlined delicately with precious metals and pave stones, told us she felt is was time to “step it up.” Hence, the diamonds. She also worked in Peruvian opals, chrysophase, sapphires and Rose of France. “This is her couture moment,” said Simon Doonan, Barneys Creative Ambassador-at-Large. Several of Neuwirth’s super hip celebrity friends were on hand to help her celebrate her “couture moment” including Michelle Williams, Joanna Newsom, Busy Phillips, Harvey Weinstein and SNL‘s Andy Samberg. If you read Andy Samberg and thought, “Wha? What’s he doing there?” he goes way back with Neuwirth–all the way back to what he called “unofficial Jew camp” (that, and he dates Newsom). Neuwirth confirmed “It was called Camp Skylight.” Follow Fashionista on Twitter or become a fan on Facebook. This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |
Last Night’s Party: Cosmos With Candace Bushnell Posted: 28 Apr 2011 02:26 PM PDT Carrie, Samantha, Miranda, and Charlotte–there’s just something about those four fashionable Manhattanites that whips every girl into a frenzy. Proof? When we arrived early at the Gansevoort Park Avenue yesterday evening for the Gilt City-hosted launch of Summer and the City: A Carrie Diaries Novel, the estrogen-heavy line already wrapped around the block–and guests were getting pushy. Though no fewer than five security guards and hotel attendants flanked the entrance (we counted), we finally managed to make our way to the penthouse. Out by the mosaic-tiled pool, Gilt members were sipping drinks, nibbling on polka-dotted chocolate truffles, and angling to get a few moments with their favorite author. Posted: 28 Apr 2011 01:31 PM PDT Last night we stopped by a presentation of LensCrafters sunglasses (from classic Ray-bans to Tory Burch you can have a prescription put into just about any pair) mostly because Joan Rivers was the “special guest.” RIvers won our hearts with her documentary A Piece of Work, and she’s got the sharpest tongue out there so we couldn’t wait to find out what she was doing at LensCrafters and grill her about the thing that everyone can’t stop talking about. Textbook for Fashionista: Kate Middleton Posted: 28 Apr 2011 01:00 PM PDT
Unless you’ve been living under an extremely heavy rock for the past few months (do you need help?), then you know that there’s a royal wedding tomorrow. Everybody and their mom (mum?) is buzzing about the nuptials of Prince William and Princess-in-waiting Kate Middleton, and we’re no exception. Of course, the fashion set is preoccupied with one thing: the dress. It’s been rumored to be made of unicorn feathers (they exist), down from golden geese and dragon silk–truly a fairytale princess gown. OK, maybe not, but with the recent denial by Sophie Cranston’s camp and Bruce Oldfield’s camp, it’s anybody’s guess as to the designer. Personally, I’m hoping for Sarah Burton of Alexander McQueen but everybody from Alice Temperley to Daniella Helayel has been thrown in the mix. And so, I give you Kate Middleton. Ta-da. 1. P.S. I Made This…With Fashionista: DIY Royal Wedding Fascinator Posted: 28 Apr 2011 10:21 AM PDT Fascinated by fascinators? Kate Middleton‘s fondness for fascinators (they’re de rigueur for royals and posh Brits at formal affairs) have created an increased fascination for the frou frou head pieces. Google searches for fascinator are up 50% since January and sales have spiked at the few US retailers that sell them, according to CNN. So in honor of the big day tomorrow, we asked DIY goddess Erica Domesek of P.S. I Made This… to come up with a fascinator that you can make at home so we can all be like Kate.
