Fergie’s New ‘Intense’ Fragrance For Avon

Posted: 08 Apr 2011 07:00 AM PDT

While Fergie’s first fragrance, Outspoken, may have not made our list of best selling celebrity fragrances, its launch last year was Avon’s most successful fragrance launch in the cosmetic company’s 125 year history.

This summer, the Black Eyed Pea will launch a sequel to the original floral scent. It’s called Outspoken Intense, and this one, she says, smells even better.

We journeyed up to Madison Square Garden earlier this week where Avon was hosting 5,000 spirited Avon representatives as part of their Avon Believe World Tour, to figure out what’s so “intense” about the singer’s latest perfume.

Model Marquita Pring On Why She Prefers “Curvy” to “Plus Size,” Her Dream Gig, and the Industry’s Fascination with Size

Posted: 07 Apr 2011 03:15 PM PDT

Marquita Pring was just featured on Vogue Italia’s website under the headline “a new star in the curvy universe.” You might have seen her walking Jean Paul Gaultier‘s spring 2011 runway or in V‘s size issue. And she’s currently working on a major editorial with a big name photographer but she won’t tell us more.

When you’re talking “plus size” models, Crystal Renn is the name that comes to mind. She’s outspoken about size in the modeling industry, even if she’s no longer technically “plus size” (whatever that means). But that’s the point–why do we need labels? Pring says she was honored to be called a “a new star in the curvy universe” by Vogue Italia, but she’s hoping they call her a “new star in the MODELING universe,” next.

We chatted with Pring about labels, the industry’s fixation with size, coping with pressure, and her dream job (it might surprise you).

The Dreaded White Powder’s Latest Victim: Ashley Judd

Posted: 07 Apr 2011 02:45 PM PDT

When is the FDA going to ban that horrific white powder that makes 40-something actresses look like they dunked their faces in a bowl of flour? It has worked its mischief again, this time on an unsuspecting Ashley Judd.

Ashley, who has been keeping a low profile for a few years now, surfaced in New York City this week for a book signing for her controversial new memoir, All That Is Bitter and Sweet. While there's a lot of tabloid-worthy stuff in her book, the pictures from the book signing are what had the tabs talking last evening.

Look Book: Agent Provocateur Fall 2011

Posted: 07 Apr 2011 02:10 PM PDT

If we learned anything from Agent Provocateur‘s fall collection, it’s that just because it gets chilly outside doesn’t mean things shouldn’t heat up inside.

The luxury lingerie brand’s latest collection is risqué yet totally classic and glamorous. There are sheer silk chiffon lounge suits and sleeved corsets, and of course, plenty of lacy numbers.

The collection’s jaw-dropping pieces include elastic playsuits that can be accessorized with heart-shaped pasties, and open back briefs held together by a cutesy bow.

Click through to see the entire collection.

Breakfast at Barneys New York With Amanda Brooks and Joseph Altuzarra

Posted: 07 Apr 2011 01:40 PM PDT

There’s a ton of interesting stuff happening at Barneys right now. Carine Roitfeld’s styling gig and Daphne Guinness’ Met Ball windows are probably the most exciting. But we’re still very much enthralled with newly-anointed fashion director Amanda Brooks and how she’ll guide the store’s buy.

That’s why we were particularly excited to head over to the store-with-the-black-awnings for a casual breakfast chat between Brooks and Barneys’ favorite Joseph Altuzarra. Outfitted in the designer’s spring collection, Brooks asked Altuzarra all about inspiration, working with retailers, and why he doesn’t design with skinny models in mind. A few things we learned:

We Heart: Terry Richardson’s Opening Ceremony Look Book, Starring Lindsey Wixson

Posted: 07 Apr 2011 11:48 AM PDT

Shopbop‘s got a great interview today with Opening Ceremony’s Humberto Leon and Carol Lim, which you should definitely check out.

The duo’s wise words make it a must read, but the accompanying images from Opening Ceremony’s Spring 2011 look book–starring Lindsey Wixson and shot by Terry Richardson–shouldn’t be missed, either. If you haven’t perused the entire look book yet, you can do so right here. (Oh, and the best news: most of the stuff is available to buy on OC’s site right now.)

Seoul Fashion Week, Part 1: Men’s Fall 2011 Collections

Posted: 07 Apr 2011 10:53 AM PDT

Fashionista contributor Long Nguyen is the co-founder/style director of Flaunt.

SEOUL, KOREA–”I am in my second year at Seoul Arts College majoring in modeling,” says Lee Sang Min, wearing a wool cotton double breasted coat, black and white striped turtleneck sweater, black slim pants and black leather boots. He was waiting in line to get into the CY Choi show in the main hall at Korea Fashion Week with a group of five of his schoolmates. Surprised, as I thought they were just fashion kids rather than college students studying modeling, I asked through my interpreter: "How long is the modeling school program?"

"You can do a two year associate or a four year bachelor's program," said Back Min Kyu, who stood nearby wearing a black button down shirt, a white double side button pea coat, black pants, and black leather boots. "Have you come to the shows here before?" "Yes, we came the last time," replied Choi Min Suk wearing a pair of light sunglasses, grey beret, black double breasted side button coat, grey knitted cardigan, black slim jeans, and black boots.

The UK Releases New Guidelines To Prevent Misleading Cosmetics Ads

Posted: 07 Apr 2011 10:00 AM PDT

It's become the norm rather than the exception that models in makeup and skincare ads are retouched to death. The fact that the recent "unretouched" Makeup Forever ad made such news is a testament to this fact of life in the beauty industry.

But cosmetics companies have been getting in trouble for this, particularly in the UK. Over the years, there have been a lot of complaints, especially about mascara ads which depict models in fake eyelashes. L'Oreal Paris was targeted in 2007 because Penelope Cruz was wearing fakes in a Telescopic Mascara commercial. Rimmel is a repeat offender, giving Kate Moss digitally enhanced lashes in 2007 and Georgia May Jagger fake lashes last year, both in mascara ads.

Two UK organizations, the Committee of Advertising Practice (CAP) and Broadcast Committee of Advertising Practice (BCAP) just released new advertising guidelines for cosmetics advertising.

The guidelines address pre-production (styling and makeup) and post-production (re-touching). Some of the guidelines include:

Have You Worn or Will You Wear Yellow Nail Polish?

Posted: 07 Apr 2011 08:00 AM PDT

Yellow nail polish is one trend that keeps popping up year after year and just will not die. It seems to be fueled by whatever pop tartlet is embracing it that particular season. Rihanna did it in 2007. Katy Perry did in 2010. And this year, of course, Lady Gaga wore yolk-y yellow nails–courtesy of Deborah Lippmann–for her egg stunt at the Grammys.

This past weekend I saw three different tweets discussing yellow nails and sending Twitpics of freshly painted yellow nails. Will you wear this trend? I have to say I'm firmly against it.
