Matzoh is maybe the opposite of sexy–it tastes like cardboard and is constipating. Celebs and it-girls busted out their festival wear for Coachella this weekend to great effect. And it wasn’t just festival-goers like Kate Bosworth in Current/Elliott or Alexa Chung in a beaded 3.1 Phillip Lim who stole the show style-wise. Performers Kanye West and Lauryn Hill rocked in spring 2011 runway looks–Kanye in a women’s blouse from Céline and Lauryn in a striped Jil Sander. Stripes emerged as a trend for the weekend, as well as delicate lace numbers, and the requisite tiny cutoff jean shorts and floaty maxi skirts. A social networking site called BeautifulPeople.com polled over 127,000 people in order to rank the most beautiful royals (according to the New York Post the site generated images randomly, two at a time, allowing users to vote hot-or-not style). It’s no surprise that Princess Grace of Monaco came in at number one. It is surprising that princess-to-be Kate Middleton snagged the number three spot, one ahead of Princess Diana. We spotted prairie girl-inspired looks–think Peter Pan collars, voluminous maxi dresses, and Americana plaid prints–on the fall 2011 runways of Steven Alan, Y-3, Rodarte, Marc Jacobs, and Chris Benz. Though fashion folk have been stocking up on these styles, it’s undeniable that the trend is pretty man-repelling. Recently, an outfit comprised of a sweater layered over a black maxi-skirt prompted one of our friends to dub us “Amish.” Luckily, for those of us hoping to give the look an edge and some sex appeal, former Project Runway runner-up Daniel Vosovic imagined what would happen if the prairie girl moved to New York City. I’m far from convinced that Libélula’s Sophie Cranston is the designer of Kate Middleton’s wedding dress, but let’s speculate. Let’s say that Cranston has been afforded the opportunity to make the most talked about dress since Diana married Prince Charles. Will this be Cranston’s “Jason Wu moment,” as HuffPo royal correspondent Yvonne York declared? Will fashionites the world over be clamoring to get a piece of Libélula post-April 29? Hardly.
