J.Crew CEO Mickey Drexler Suggests Jenna Lyons as Possible Successor Posted: 13 Apr 2011 06:06 AM PDT J.Crew president and creative director Jenna Lyons might be under attack by the right wing nut jobs at Fox for letting her son paint his toes pink, but her boss Mickey Drexler thinks she could be the right person to succeed him when he steps down. J. Crew Chairman and CEO Mickey Drexler gave his first interview since taking J. Crew private to Bloomberg’s For the Record program, hosted by Margaret Brennan. In it, Drexler dishes on everything from the decision to take J.Crew private, expanding internationally, and Jenna Lyons. The full interview airs this weekend but here are the highlights, courtesy Bloombergy TV’s In Business with Margaret Brannan: On Jenna Lyons as his possible successor, and his succession plan: Follow Fashionista on Twitter or become a fan on Facebook. This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |

The Loonies at Fox News Hate on Jenna Lyons for Letting Her Son Wear Pink Essie Nail Polish Posted: 12 Apr 2011 03:02 PM PDT I refuse to give Fox News’ website traffic, so let me just summarize what’s going on: Contributor Dr. Keith Ablow says that the recent feature on J.Crew‘s website depicting design head Jenna Lyons painting her little boy’s toenails pink is “a dramatic example of the way that our culture is being encouraged to abandon all trappings of gender identity—homogenizing males and females when the outcome of such ‘psychological sterilization’ (my word choice) is not known.” He goes on to say, “If you have no problem with the J. Crew ad, how about one in which a little boy models a sundress? What could possibly be the problem with that?” Follow Fashionista on Twitter or become a fan on Facebook. This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |

But the most in-demand designer was definitely Rebecca Minkoff, who launched her company from scratch in 2005. Rebecca has kindly offered to answer your questions–and more–next Tuesday April 19 at 6pm, for our first-ever Fashionista web cast. Need Some Lip Gloss With That Washing Machine? Sears Now Sells Beauty Posted: 12 Apr 2011 08:04 AM PDT Do you shop at Sears? The retailer has had to deal with some serious image issues in the last decade and is trying to give itself a makeover. To that end, WWD reports this morning that Sears introduced beauty departments in about 100 stores, and is hoping to increase that number. Right now the beauty centers stock brands traditionally found in the drugstore–like L'Oreal, Cover Girl, Maybelline, Revlon and Physicians Formula. Sears is also dabbling in higher end brands like Ahava, Dermalogica, and Burt's Bees, and it hopes to expand its offerings. Since drugstores aren't really found in malls anymore, Sears is hoping to carve out a niche for itself by offering shoppers brands traditionally found in drugstores but that they can't get at say, Macy's. The industry experts WWD interviewed for the story seem kind of lukewarm on the whole concept.
