Best Dressed: Gisele in Ungaro, Poppy in Chanel and More

Posted: 13 May 2011 03:00 PM PDT

This week was all about looking glam in a decidedly cool way. Poppy Delevigne makes Chanel ultra-modern at the Resort show, Gisele sexes it up in Ungaro, Gwyneth thinks Roksanda Ilincic is the jam, Ashley Olsen keeps us wanting more of that Prada stole, and Keira Knightley looks fetching in Carven.

Inside Emmanuelle Alt’s Second Vogue Paris

Posted: 13 May 2011 01:50 PM PDT

Lucky for my magazine-obsessed self, Lauren toted Vogue Paris April 2011 from her honeymoon in Morocco and Spain.

The issue, covered by Kate Moss, has all the traditional goodies found in Vogue Paris–Freja, Eniko, boobs, and Melanie Ward editorials–which makes it great. But as Lauren and I flipped through the issue together, we realized something just seemed off.

The styling in all the editorials is excellent, though there aren’t any sexy spreads à la Carine. Emmanuelle’s simple, tough, tomboy aesthetic seems to be permeating all the editorials. The weirdness doesn’t come from the editorials, but the blank space on almost every market and news page.

Whereas Carine had her graphic design team cluttering the pages with shoes, old photos, lipsticks, and diamonds, Emanuelle has them cutting back. It’s definitely clearer, but looks more like the streamlined pages of Elle and less like the flouncy, whimsical pages of Vogue Paris.

Take a look inside after the jump, and let us know what you think!

Lady Gaga’s first column for V talks endlessly about her inspirations and why the greatest artists steal ideas, so naturally we must ask: Do you prefer Daphne Guinness’ super chic ‘do or Lady Gaga’s interpretation of it? Or are you just a fan of the original black/white style sported by Ms. Cruella De Vil?

Textbook for Fashionista: Lady Georgiana Spencer Cavendish

Posted: 13 May 2011 11:00 AM PDT

Fans of the Tumblr blog Textbook, take note: Fashionista has teamed up with the blog's mastermind, John Jannuzzi, to create storyboards for our industry's style stars. (See an archive of his work for us here.)

While the interwebs may still be abuzz about Kate Middleton’s dress and Beatrice‘s hat–I thought I’d pay tribute to another British icon.

Stretching way back to the days of yore (my favorite days), England was enchanted by Lady Georgiana Spencer Cavendish, Duchess of Devonshire. You may remember Keira Knightley‘s portrayal of the fashionable noble a few years ago in The Duchess. Aside from her flamboyant wardrobe and trendsetting ways, she was an active politician–well as active as a duchess could be in the late 18th century. She championed the causes of the Whig Party and was instrumental in securing votes for the party. Though her public life may have been glamorous, she was plagued by an unhappy, unfaithful and at times bizarre marriage. Her husband, the Duke, had open affairs and moved his Mistress (Georgiana’s best friend) into their home. As time went on, the three managed a peaceful if not awkward coexistence. If I had to equate her with anybody today, I don’t know if I’d put her in the ranks of the effortless Kate Middleton or the expressive Daphne Guinness…I imagine she falls somewhere in between, setting the trend for the nation while taking care of its people.

1. Fancy Georgiana is fancy
Dress by Dries Van Noten, coat by Prabal Gurung, shoes by Alexander McQueen

2. On the campaign trail
Cape by Chloe, dress by Gucci, shoes by Lanvin

3. Taking Charlotte, Eliza, Harry-O, Little G, and William for a stroll
Coat by Prada, dress by Stella McCartney, shoes and tights by Jason Wu

About The Writer
John Jannuzzi began styling figures from history and literature on his blog Textbook in September 2009. He studied at Muhlenberg College and Parsons, The New School for Design and currently works at Lucky magazine in New York. He tweets like a crazy person.

Botox Mom is Under Investigation by Child Protective Services

Posted: 13 May 2011 10:26 AM PDT

Remember that nutso story about the demented mom who injects her eight-year-old daughter with Botox? Well, it ended up being true, and Lara Spencer interviewed the San Francisco-based mom and daughter on Good Morning America yesterday. It was all as creepy and strange as you might imagine–the mom is training the girl to be a “superstar”–but there’s some good news. Apparently San Francisco human services is investigating the situation.

“It’s pretty unusual for a mom to be injecting an 8-year-old with botox and certainly is grounds for an investigation,” San Francisco Human Services Agency spokesperson Trent Rohrer told GMA.

We have no doubt something will be done. Because this shit is bananas. Click through to watch the video of Spencer interviewing the girl.

Quote of the Day: A 17-Year-Old Zooey Deschanel Takes on Vogue

Posted: 13 May 2011 08:00 AM PDT

Why would you want to limit the spectrum of beauty to an “ideal” when you, as a popular womens magazine, have the opportunity to expand it? I don’t think any woman should have to feel as if she needs to shove herself into an “ideal” to be beautiful. Beauty should be something that is celebrated and something that is enjoyable, not something that people should feel uncomfortable about achieving. Most of the women, and certainly most of the adolescent girls, in the United States do not feel completely secure with themselves, especially with their appearance; is insecurity something you want to advocate? As American women, we don’t need discouragement, but inspiration.

Zooey Deschanel
Los Angeles, CA

This is a letter the actress wrote to Vogue magazine at age 17. Via You Kids Are So Strange.
