Mario Testino Slated to Shoot Kate Moss’ Wedding Posted: 28 May 2011 07:19 AM PDT Mario Testino might have lensed Kate Middleton and Prince William’s engagement photos, but only one Kate can get him to shoot her entire wedding…. The Daily, the iPad-only newspaper, reports that Testino will be Kate Moss‘ official photographer for her wedding to Jamie Hince on July 2. He told the paper that he wants to “capture the happiness that Kate is going through at the moment.” Whatever that means, we’re sure it’ll look good. Best Dressed: Shala Monroque in Jason Wu, Lauren Santo Domingo in Versace and More Posted: 27 May 2011 03:30 PM PDT This week was all about innate style–these ladies just know how to dress. Shala Monroque continued her red carpet streak in Jason Wu, while Katie Holmes wore her own design from Holmes & Yang‘s stunning spring collection. Rihanna looked sophisticated in a bone-colored Max Azria suit, and Lauren Santo Domingo stepped out to dinner at The Lion with Versace in one of the label’s colorful offerings. Runway Vs. the Celeb Way: A Look At How Celebrities Have Altered Runway Looks for the Red Carpet Posted: 27 May 2011 02:31 PM PDT It’s good to be a celebrity. One of the many perks that comes along with the job, if you’re a hot young A-lister, is the opportunity to wear just about any runway or couture look that you or your stylist likes. And when you’re celebrity of that caliber, the world’s top designers will do just about anything to dress you–including altering their runway creations to your liking. Recall, if you will, that episode of the Rachel Zoe Project when the stylist musters up the courage to ask the Kaiser himself to alter one of his couture creations for Cameron Diaz to make it appeal more to the American masses. With Cannes, the Met Ball, and the Oscars in recent memory, we’ve compiled a slideshow of starlets who wore looks right off the runway, with some minor changes made. The question is, which do you like better: The original runway versions more or the alterations made to please the stars? Click through and weigh in. Posted: 27 May 2011 01:32 PM PDT Israeli-born NYC-based designer Nili Lotan has been quietly churning out simple, stark, elegant designs since she launched her eponymous label in 2003. But it’s hard to stay under the radar when J.Crew CEO Mickey Drexler stops by your showroom and wants to collaborate. Lotan teamed up with the specialty retailer to produce a very small capsule collection of relaxed basics including a perfect striped boyfriend sweater that sold out immediately. We talked to Lotan to find out how she landed that plum collaboration, how her background in Israel and time in the air force has influenced her design, and if she would ever consider putting on a runway show. Would You Rather…? Le Smoking Edition Posted: 27 May 2011 01:00 PM PDT Yves Saint Laurent was famous for, among other feats of fashion, his Le Smoking suit, a combination of menswear trends with a sexy, French jeunesse. Recently there Internet has been up-in-arms about Yves Saint Laurent cigarettes, which were launched in the ’80s but are experiencing a resurgence in Asia and Russia. Which type of smoking would you rather indulge in: A YSL suit or a YSL cigarette? Three’s a Trend: Using Latisse on Your Eyebrows Posted: 27 May 2011 12:28 PM PDT When I was 13, I did what a lot of teenagers do and went to town on my eyebrows. (I.e., plucked them nearly to the point of no return.) I’m lucky that my hair is naturally very, very thick, or I might have had to resort to drawing on my eyebrows with a pencil. I should preface the rest by saying that, despite the abuse, my eyebrows are currently pretty good. They have a nice shape. The problem? I’m obsessed with bushy eyebrows. I want thick, dramatic caterpillars. But I haven’t plucked mine in a year and they just won’t get thick. It’s driving me nuts. (And penciling them in Joan Crawford-style just doesn’t do it for me.) So I started thinking…maybe I should use Latisse, that liquid prescription–only stuff, on my eyebrows? Posted: 27 May 2011 11:28 AM PDT Last night, we hopped by Swarovski‘s party commemorating the 10th anniversary of the brand’s involvement with the CFDA Awards, as well as the subsequent limited edition collection designed by Philip Crangi. After getting thoroughly lost in a maze of underground stores and eateries (also known as Rockefeller Plaza), we finally found our way to Swarovski‘s champagne-filled shindig in one of the sparkliest stores we’ve been in yet–and boy was it worth the trek. Top Looks From SCAD’s Senior Fashion Show Posted: 27 May 2011 10:11 AM PDT I should probably admit something: Before last weekend, I’d never been to a student fashion show. We cover just about every big one–from Central Saint Martins to Parsons–but I’ve never been able to attend, whether because of a last minute appointment or a massive body of water. But that all changed Saturday at the Savannah College of Art and Design, where I witnessed the senior class’ incredibly well-produced fashion show. Not only were the clothes impressive–there were plenty of subtle, non-offensive references to Christopher Kane, McQueen and Mary Katrantzou–but the styling (done by our favorite guy/SCAD mentor Chris Benz and editor extraordinaire Kym Canter) and overall feel of the show was more professional than amateur. I could have done without some of the ruffles–why do students/Project Runway contestants always seem to feel the need to create pleated high collars? Who actually wears those?–there were legitimately pieces I would consider ordering. Click through to see some of the standouts from this year’s senior collections. And congrats to the students and fashion school dean Michael Fink! Follow Fashionista on Twitter or become a fan on Facebook. This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |
