Lady Gaga’s Face Is Transformed Into a Butterfly For the Cover of V Magazine

Posted: 11 May 2011 06:09 AM PDT

Lady Gaga‘s V cover has hit the internet (thank you, Fashin). The mother monster, her face covered in sequins and feathers to look like a butterfly, was shot by Inez and Vinoodh for the cover of V‘s issue 71.

Gaga’s cover is timed to her inaugural monthly column for the mag. The issue is also being billed as the “Asia” issue (the Cut has a preview of some of the editorials featuring today’s top Asian models). Gaga is not Asian. Discuss.

The photog duo have also released a preview of an alternate Bollywood-inspired cover on their tumblr which features another model (that’s not Gaga, right?) whose face is heavily appliqued with sequins and general bling.

10 Looks Kate Middleton Should Wear on Her Honeymoon

Posted: 10 May 2011 04:02 PM PDT

As you’ve probably already heard, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge took off for their honeymoon today. According to the official Royal Wedding blog, the site of the newlywed’s honeymoon “which will be overseas, will not be disclosed in advance…the Couple have asked that their privacy be respected during the coming weekend and during their honeymoon.”

Oops! Secret’s out! The British tabs are reporting that Kate and Wills will be honeymooning on a private island in the Seychelles. And while Kate will most likely wear some of the sensible items she picked up on her high street shopping spree just days before her big day, we thought it would be more fun to pick out some pieces from resort and spring 2011 that we wish she would wear. Keeping her conservative tastes and penchant for those damn L.K. Bennett wedges in mind, of course. (Yes, we photoshopped them onto these looks.)

A Closer Look at Why This Swimsuit Has Some Indians Burning Australian Flags

Posted: 10 May 2011 02:00 PM PDT

Protests broke out in India this past weekend over what might seem like a trivial matter to Westerners. But in Southeastern Asia, it speaks to a bigger cultural crisis that’s been underway for some time.

Members of the right wing Hindu organization Shiv Sena and the Hindu-nationalist Bharatiya Janata political party are angry at the Aussies for unintentionally disrespecting their culture. In fact, they burned images of the Australian flag and held up pictures of models in Hindu deity-adorned swimsuits at a protest in the Indian cities of Hyderabad and Amritsar this weekend, according to the Sydney Morning Herald.

The groups were angered by the use of Hindu deities like Ganesha and Lakshmi on designer Lisa Burke’s swimwear, which was modeled on the catwalk at Australian Fashion Week. (Burke’s label, Lisa Blue, donates 25% of net profits to protecting whales and dolphins in the South Pacific.)

Quote of the Day: Iris Apfel Loves Wearing Jeans But Thinks Most Pairs are Overpriced

Posted: 10 May 2011 01:30 PM PDT

“Have you seen the prices? Scandalous. I mean, yes, if they are embroidered or beaded or made special in some divine way, but honestly, jeans are jeans. I live in them most of the time, but I had a helluva time getting a pair of jeans around 1940, when I was at the University of Wisconsin. I thought I'd wear jeans, a turban, and some old earrings. So I went to an Army-Navy store, but you have to remember, back in those days, all the men in Wisconsin were the size of Paul Bunyan. Then the salesman told me, ‘Young ladies don't wear jeans.’ He wouldn't sell me any or have them cut down. So I kept going back to the store, and they kept throwing me out, so to get rid of me, they finally ordered me some boys' jeans. I love men's jeans; they fit me better.” –Fashion icon Iris Apfel in Architectural Digest.

Beach Beauty: How To Protect Your Colored Hair From Sun and Chlorine

Posted: 10 May 2011 01:00 PM PDT

Between the news that Kate Middleton and Prince William just jetted off to their honeymoon and the fancy beach party that was Chanel's cruise collection, you're probably ready for summer. But if you have colored or highlighted hair, you'll want to protect your investment while you're out in the elements.

Chlorine, sun, and salt water can all wreak havoc on a dye job, so we looked for advice from our favorite hair expert, stylist Chris Lospalluto from the Sally Hershberger salon here in NYC.

Can Someone Please Explain Rachel McAdams’ ‘Hat’ To Me?

Posted: 10 May 2011 12:00 PM PDT

Saw this photo of Rachel McAdams arriving in Cannes on JustJared. I really like Rachel McAdams. I think she’s beautiful and I was just watching Mean Girls for the umpteenth time this past weekend. I do not like this hat. It looks like an upturned straw trash basket. At best, a fedora with the brim ripped off. Maybe she’s trying to make fez happen?

Living Proof’s New Straight Spray Will Make You Give Up Your Brazilian Blowout

Posted: 10 May 2011 09:30 AM PDT

It's only May but I think I already have a contender for "Best Beauty Launch of the Year." Strong words, but I'm standing behind them.

Living Proof, the brainy hair care company run by MIT scientists, changed the hair care industry with their innovative products. Their newest launch, Straight, just upped the ante even further.

Straight hair mania is still going strong, and Straight is Living Proof's contribution to the market. They already have the amazing No Frizz line (disclaimer: I'm a user of the No Frizz Straight Making Styling Cream), but this new product is unique. It's an alternative to semi-permament straightening like a Brazilian and heavy traditional products that contain silicones and oils.
