Posted: 06 May 2011 06:09 AM PDT We stopped by the Chanel fine jewelry showroom the other night to check out some serious bling, like the new chromatic J12 watches that can only be polished with diamond dust. They’re amazing; and if only we could afford that diamond dust, we’d be adding the new J12 to the list of gifts we really, really want. But while the baubles were, of course, incredible, one of the biggest mesmerizers in the showroom wasn’t propped on a jewelry tray. Instead, it was inside the ipads dotting the floorspace. The ipads framed a preview of Chanel’s revamped fine jewelry and watch websites, which launched yesterday. Like the jewelry, the sites are stunning– but they’re also smart. Last Night’s Party: Liv Tyler and More Turn Out to Celebrate Stella McCartney at Saks Posted: 05 May 2011 04:00 PM PDT As if this blindingly sunny NYC day wasn’t enough to remind you that yes, spring is finally here, last night’s park-themed soiree celebrating Stella McCartney‘s newest (and first) shop in Saks Fifth Avenue seemed to drive the point home. Amidst a cotton candy machine and swings, Stella-clad models mingled with guests on the astro-turfed floor, their bouquets of white and silver balloons bobbing well above the crowd’s heads. And we have to say, we can’t think of a more fitting way to showcase McCartney’s playful motifs this season, from the confetti-like sheer dresses to the oversized, juicy-looking fruit prints. But while the mood was festive, both McCartney and co-host Liv Tyler turned serious when asked about the Costume Institute’s McQueen exhibit at the Met: “The exhibition is exquisite,” said McCartney “He was a good friend of mine for a long time.” Tyler said. “[So the event] was very sad, but also very beautiful.” She added, with a thoughtful laugh, “He would have thought that night was so, so amazing.” Still, it was hard to be somber on such a celebratory night. Nars’ New Bronzing Collection Will Make You Feel Like You’re In French Polynesia Posted: 05 May 2011 03:00 PM PDT Nars' new limited edition "Laguna: Portrait of Paradise" collection will make you wish for warm tropical breezes, especially if you're stuck somewhere grey and rainy–like NYC. The collection was inspired by Francois Nars' private island, Motu Tane, which is near Bora Bora. (If you're interested, it rents for $230,000 per week.) The three piece collection takes some Nars classics and tweaks them for summer. Kate Middleton’s Dress-Making Team at McQueen Thought They Were Working on a Movie Costume Posted: 05 May 2011 02:27 PM PDT Just because Kate Middleton‘s wedding dress and its designer have been revealed, doesn’t mean it’s time to stop obsessing over it. There are still so many questions! The foremost being, how in the world was the dress kept a secret?! There have been rumors of secret meetings behind locked doors, and that the dress was created in pieces. The latest scoop, reported by Us Weekly, says that the lace-makers were told that they were working on a dress for a British costume drama. Seamstresses at Alexander McQueen also thought that the gown was for a film (no wonder why no one blabbed). All senior staffers at McQueen were instructed to lie if asked whether Burton was the ‘chosen one.’ Follow Fashionista on Twitter or become a fan on Facebook. This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |
Tommy Hilfiger’s Preppy Pop-up “Cottage” Is Bigger Than Our Apartment Posted: 05 May 2011 02:08 PM PDT Remember when we told you that Tommy Hilfiger would launch a pop-up "house" tour this summer? Well, the initiative just got off the ground (or, on the ground, depending how you look at it). The preppy label has erected a shingled, shuttered beach cottage that brings a piece of New England pomp to the cobblestones of NYC’s Meatpacking district. But the commitment to all things prep doesn't stop at the cottage's threshold. Inside, the sixty-piece "Prep World" collection (a collaboration with Preppy Handbook author Lisa Birnbach) takes Tommy's classic pieces up a notch, steeping them in madras and chambray and sprinkling them with rope details and anchor motifs. Posted: 05 May 2011 11:56 AM PDT Pippa the Party Girl: Though we love us some Kate Middleton, it’s obvious that Pippa is the fun sister. The younger Middleton works as a party planner, and judging from a picture floating around the internet, she’s got plenty of partying experience under her belt. The image shows Pippa, wearing only a bra on top (her body looks ridic, natch), dancing with a shirtless boy. In the background, tables are filled with bottles of booze. {Huffington Post} Knockoffs at Tiffany’s: Tiffany & Co. has a new collection of jewelry that resembles a thin twisted rope tied into a dainty bow. The company is usually the victim of counterfeit goods, but this time, it looks like Tiffany’s might be the culprit. The designs share a strikingly close resemblance to Brooklyn-based designer Kiel Mead’s collection of “Forget Me Not” accessories that he first produced in 2005. {UnBeige} Kate Moss Gets an Exhibit in New York: Beginning on May 17th, the Danziger Projects gallery in New York will transform into a Kate Moss shrine. The exhibit, The Moss Portfolio and Other Stories, will feature 11 famous portraits of the model as well as images of Moss before she was famous. {ELLE} Follow Fashionista on Twitter or become a fan on Facebook. This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |

Would You Rather…? Kate Middleton v. Chelsy Davy, the Royal Wedge Edition Posted: 05 May 2011 11:00 AM PDT
This week, Prince Harry’s on-and-off again girlfriend and wedding date, Chelsy Davy, was caught by the Daily Mail trying on a pair of lookalikes in the shop Office on King’s Road in London. Perhaps dressing more like Kate is Davy’s attempt to coax Harry into putting a ring on it… Follow Fashionista on Twitter or become a fan on Facebook. This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |
New Japanese Fashion Accessory: Cat Ears That Move In Response To Your Feelings Posted: 05 May 2011 09:54 AM PDT Fashion has always had a thing for cats (see: Grace Coddington, cat hats on Anna Sui’s fall runway, United Bamboo’s cat calendar, this amazing spread in Vogue Italia, etc.,). Also, I have a thing for cats (but not in a creepy way, ok?) so I pretty much haven’t been able to put real sentences together since I saw this mind-blowing promo video for this new product from Japanese company Neurowear, that came to my attention via The Daily Wh.at. It’s cat ears on a headband and the ears actually move and wiggle like real cat ears in response to your emotional state by reading your brainwaves. The video makes this very clear by showing a cartoon photo of a brain with an arrow pointing to some cat ears. The ears stand up when the wearer concentrates (as you’ll note in the video, taking a chocolate doughnut out of a bag takes a lot of concentration) and lay down when the wearer is relaxed (like when you’re eating a chocolate doughnut). And we know, from watching the video, that the ears also go down when you feel rejected. Who would reject a woman wearing cat ears that move!? Agyness Deyn To Play Stripper In New Film Posted: 05 May 2011 08:34 AM PDT Agyness Deyn, from model to…stripper? Yep, Aggy has been cast as a stripper named Flo in the re-make of a 1996 film called Pusher. The story, which was originally set in Copenhagen, is about one week in the life of a drug dealer named Frank. Frank helps Flo leave the country. (We'll have to see the movie to figure out why she wants out.) The director, Luis Prieto, told Vogue UK that he didn't know who Agyness was; he chose her based on her "impressive" audition.
