Andrew Rosen/Proenza Schouler Deal Looking More and More Likely

Posted: 03 Dec 2010 07:30 AM PST

We reported back in March that Theory CEO Andrew Goldman was courting Proenza Schouler, whose major investor–London-based private equity firm Permira–wants to sell.

Now WWD reports that the deal is about to go through: “Sources said Rosen could be heading an investment group that would buy Permira's 45 percent stake in the designer firm.” Proenza’s designers. Jack McCollolugh and Lazaro Hernandez, as well as their college friend/CEO Shirley Cook, own 55%. Along with his role as CEO/Founder of Theory–which is owned by the Japanese company that also owns Uniqlo–Rosen has personally invested in Rag & Bone, Alice & Olivia, and Gryphon.

Anna Wintour, Rap Artist? Wintour, ALT and More Guest on Diddy’s New Album

Posted: 03 Dec 2010 07:09 AM PST

Yes, you read that headline right. Anna Wintour, Andre Leon Talley, as well as Marc Jacobs, Isaac Mizrahi, Tommy Hilfiger and Zac Posen all have speaking parts on Diddy’s latest album Last Train to Paris, out December 14.

We know this because, strangely enough, Vogue.com (you know, the place one goes to hear new rap), got an exclusive preview of the album, which you can listen to here. Yet the Vogue/Diddy connection is not quite as tenuous as it seems.

Posted: 02 Dec 2010 03:17 PM PST

Black Swan hits theaters tomorrow, and we’ll finally be able to get a look at those Rodarte costumes (oh, and that much-hyped sex scene between Natalie Portman and Mila Kunis). Ballet has long been a muse for fashion, so we decided to take a look at some of the best ballet-themed editorials over the years. The fashionheads at online communities the Fashion Spot and Fashin made them easy to find–thanks!

(Sort of related: Does anyone know what’s happening with that Kate Moss/Baryshnikov ballet movie?)

Anyways, back to the editorials. Take a look.

Posted: 02 Dec 2010 01:16 PM PST

We all know that Grace Coddington is the ultimate fashion cat lady (though the industry as a whole has got a thing for cats). Not only does she have two cats –a Calico named Pumpkin, and a Blue Persian named Bart–but she also penned the masterwork Catwalk Cats. And, of course you all remember the Vogue spread Coddington styled featuring Karen Elson dressed up as Grace, posing with a litter of kitties.

So we were taken aback when Coddington admitted that she might bring a dog into the mix.

Posted: 02 Dec 2010 11:10 AM PST

Gorgeous Sarah Jessica Parker lights up the cover of January’s Elle magazine with a new interview about her infant twins and landing the top job at Halston.

“It took me a long time to say yes,” she said of being offered the position of president and chief creative officer at Halston and Halston Heritage. “I kept saying, ‘You understand, by offering this you are going to be criticized?’”

“I said, ‘Please know this now: I will never do this for a title. I will never dip in and out of this. I’ll do it like everything else I’ve ever done. I’ll be involved down to the splitting of the atom.’”

However, she admits there has been a learning curve. “I might not have the language; I can’t always tell you the exact blend of a fabric, but I figure it out,” she said.

This Week in Skincare News: A Luxury Classic Turns 30 & A New Upstart Is Born

Posted: 02 Dec 2010 09:37 AM PST

This week in beauty was all about devising a high/low anti-aging routine.

First up was a trip to Trump SoHo, where beauty writers and editors were invited to an intimate gathering, which consisted of sticking our hands into some fermenting rice. This is the origin of the magical Pitera, the secret ingredient at the heart of SK-II skin care products.

SK-II was born in 1980 in Japan after someone noticed that the hands of sake workers looked much younger than their faces. Years of research finally revealed that it was because of a metabolite produced by yeast fermentation; it's a by-product of sake manufacturing. This particular liquid, later branded "Pitera," is a nutrient rich fluid of vitamins, minerals, organic acids, and amino acids.
