Sally’s Styling Seminary: An Interview with Teen Vogue‘s Amy Astley Posted: 29 Dec 2010 07:00 AM PST Teen Vogue is one of my favorite magazines to peruse and read. The happy, energetic images Amy Astley puts on her pages bring pure joy to the unusually serious world of fashion. It’s always a pleasure to shoot for Ms. Astley. Indeed, she’s been the catalyst for several of my most memorable career highlights. (Hello, Miley Cyrus and Patrick Demarchelier on the rooftops of Paris!) Amy works closely with me when I’m shooting to help me better understand the Teen Vogue girl, and how to create interesting and new images. It’s refreshing and inspiring to have such a rich dialogue with an editor about what I’m creating for their magazine. Speaking with Amy about styling gave me even more insight into what makes her editorship at Teen Vogue so awesome. Christian Louboutin Teams Up With Menswear Designer Marlon Gobel for New York Fashion Week Posted: 29 Dec 2010 06:00 AM PST Thom Browne and Michael Bastian alum Marlon Gobel might only be three seasons into his own collection, but he’s got friends in high places. In fact, Gobel is collaborating with world-famous shoemaker Christian Louboutin for his Fall 2011 collection. Gobel’s models will wear shoes from Louboutin’s men’s line on the runway in February at New York Fashion Week–a first for the cobbler, who is predominantly known for his sky high heels. Last season, Gobel used a pair of Louboutin heels for his only women’s look. Christian loved Gobel’s style so much that he offered to outfit the boys for Fall 2011. “It’s amazing,” Gobel tells Fashionista. “His shoes are transformative and elegant.” Follow Fashionista on Twitter or become a fan on Facebook. This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |
Rachel Antonoff’s Spring Lookbook Stars 30 Rock‘s Katrina Bowden and a Kitten Posted: 28 Dec 2010 04:35 PM PST Rachel Antonoff’s SS11 lookbook hit our inboxes last night to our great delight. Featuring 30 Rock actress Katrina Bowden, new model Ruby Jean, and the most adorable kitten we’ve seen since Antonoff’s last lookbook (for Bass Hearts Rachel Antonoff), the lookbook captures all the charm of childhood while showcasing Antonoff’s very adult and wearable pieces. It’s hard to say what we want more, the adorable clothes or the cute kitten. In the ideal world, we’d get both! Click through to see Rachel Antonoff’s fantastical lookbook. Get To Know the 19-year-old Art History Major Who Dropped Out of Yale To Style Kanye Posted: 28 Dec 2010 03:55 PM PST This is Cassius Clay (not to be confused with the boxer who became Muhammed Ali–Ali was named after Clay’s ancestor, the 19th century abolitionist and politician of the same name..really). He went to fancy prep school at Phillips Academy in Andover and then to Yale and then one day last summer when he was shopping at Barneys his get up caught the eye of Kanye and the rest is history. Clay took a leave from Yale to become Yeezy‘s personal stylist and creative consultant. Clay’s remarkable story warranted a piece in the NY Post a few months ago, but the paper never managed to get a quote from Clay himself. Leave it the folks at Opening Ceremony to snag an interview with the mysterious college sophomore behind the rapper who loves fashion so much it “breaks his heart.” Here are the best bits–it’s almost too good to be true:

Posted: 28 Dec 2010 01:25 PM PST Piers Morgan Has Got a Thing for Grace Coddington: Well, who doesn’t? Apparently the CNN host, who is set to take over for Larry King on January 17, approached Coddington at the Waverly Inn recently to tell her that she was his “idol” but Coddington couldn’t place him. “You had me in your magazine, remember?” he told her. “Then she remembered. Or pretended to,” Morgan told Page Six. {Page Six} The Barbie Doll’d Up Nails Digital Nail Printer Looks Awesome and We Want One: We love some good nail art and this Barbie contraption can churn out some pretty impressive (and seasonal!) designs. {StyleList} Beckhams to the Big Apple: The Beckham clan might relocate to NYC, in part, for Victoria’s fashion career. {Racked} Follow Fashionista on Twitter or become a fan on Facebook. This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |

Olivia Palermo To Launch Clothing Line, Cracks a Smile For Nine Page Spread in Vogue Spain Posted: 28 Dec 2010 09:49 AM PST We never saw this one coming. Kidding! In not at all shocking news, Olivia Palermo has revealed in January’s Vogue Spain that her forthcoming reality show will follow the launch of her own clothing line (thank you to Racked for translating). Using a reality TV show to launch a line? What a novel idea! Racked points out that, duh, this is exactly what The City was for Whitney Port. It’s also the basis for Lauren Conrad’s new reality TV show, which will focus on her new line, Paper Crown. Still, we’ll probably watch (no word on when or where it will air). Because love her or hate her, Palermo has a great sense of style (she made our 30 best dressed of the year list) and she is very pretty to look at. That bone structure! So we’re curious. Some more evidence that Olivia Palermo is very pretty to look at? Her nine page spread in Vogue Spain aptly titled "La Niña Bonita." Check it out–she actually smiles.
