Exclusive: Giovanni Ribisi Models Shades for Barton Perreira’s Spring Campaign

Posted: 22 Dec 2010 06:30 AM PST

There are some stars for whom the transition from small or silver screen to campaign model makes sense (i.e. Blake Lively for Chanel, Leighton Meester for Missoni). But Giovanni Ribisi was not the first name we’d think of to rep a campaign. Nevertheless, the actor is the face of eyewear line Barton Perreira‘s SS11 campaign. And we’ve got to hand it to him, dude looks good in shades.

Check Out the Awesome Retro Posters For Black Swan

Posted: 21 Dec 2010 04:32 PM PST

Black Swan doesn’t quit. Natalie Portman gives a stunning performance, Rodarte made beautiful costumes, and now a UK design firm has put out a series of gorgeous vintage posters to promote the film abroad (we hope we’ll see them stateside too).

Design studio LaBoca created four posters to promote Aronofsky’s “nail-biting” thriller, drawing inspiration from Polish and Czech posters from the 60s and 70s, as well as ballet posters from the early 20th century, the Guardian is reporting.

We wish all movie posters looked this good. Check them out.

Move Over John Casablancas (and Tyra): Kate Moss Wants To Open A Modeling School

Posted: 21 Dec 2010 12:35 PM PST

Kate Moss has parlayed her modeling career into many successful business ventures–most notably her 14 collections for Topshop and not her forthcoming jam line, Kate's Damson Jam (that we’ve still yet to see).

Moss should probably stick with what she knows best, which is modeling. So it makes sense that she’s thinking of opening a modeling school, reality TV style.

“I think I could open a modeling school,” Moss told the UK’s Company magazine (as reported by the Telegraph). “In Britain’s Next Top Model they put the contestants through the torture of what modeling can be like. And it honestly can be humiliating.”

After recovering from the revelation that Moss actually watches Top Model (Supermodels! They’re just like us!), we think Moss opening a modeling school is a great idea. She’s the best in the biz and would kick ass at it. Also, we’d like to request that it be a reality TV show because that would be amazing.

If you have any doubt about Moss’s teaching or modeling abilities, revisit this clip which shows the top model killing her L’Oreal audition.

Breaking Biz News: LVMH Takes Another Bite Out of Hermes, VF Buys Rock & Republic

Posted: 21 Dec 2010 11:45 AM PST

Big brands love using the holiday season as a time to make major acquisitions. Usually, they wait until a day or two after Christmas, when everyone’s still climbing out of that Honey-Baked Ham hole.

However, this year, the big guns are coming out long before A Christmas Story will even appear on TNT.

To start the morning off right, VF announced their plans to acquire bankrupt denim label Rock & Republic for $57 million.

Quote of the Day: Chloe Sevigny Thinks Peaches Geldof Is “Just Sort Of Around”

Posted: 21 Dec 2010 10:32 AM PST

“I'm glad I grew up during the last vestige of cool, in the 1990s, when everything wasn't blogged and on the Interwebs, when things were more on the downlow and underground. I guess I am stylish, but I would rather have people come up and say ‘I really liked your performance in this or that’ than ‘I really like the way you dress.’ That irks me. Anyway, the term It girl gets used too loosely…Today the term is used to describe, say, Peaches Geldof—a girl who doesn't do anything but is just sort of around. The original It girl was the 1920s movie star Clara Bow; then, in the 1960s, with Edie Sedgwick and Warhol, It girls turned into socialites, ladies of leisure—people who had ‘it’ just for being ‘fabulous.’ But Edie was just a rich drug addict, and when I got called the It girl everyone thought I was that too. I looked like a junkie because it was the 1990s and grunge was the fashion. But I felt I was doing stuff, not just being a socialite.”

–One of our picks for best dressed of the year, Chloe Sevigny opens up to Playboy about being called an “it girl” by Jay McInerney in a 1994 New Yorker profile–and what the term has come to mean.

Fashion Hacker Nabbed For Leaking Condé Nast Images; Refuses To Talk About It Unless Compensated

Posted: 21 Dec 2010 09:45 AM PST

Fashion hackers beware: Remember last year when Condé Nast’s server was hacked and photographs from W, GQ, Vogue and Lucky were leaked online?

The hacker, Ross Ulrich, a 22-year-old college student in Columbus, Ohio, has been nabbed. Condé Nast sued Ulrich for copyright infringement and he settled with the publishing house for $12,500. The Smoking Gun (TGS) is also reporting that the FBI raided Ulrich’s house earlier this year.

Ulrich got into Condé Nast’s servers handily, he told TGS, "without having to brute force anything." He uploaded the Demi Moore covered December 2009 issue of W (you know the controversial “was her hip photoshopped out?” cover) on fashion forum The Fashion Spot (a popular destination for leaked images and “first looks”) and after Condé forced the removal of that image, Ulrich posted loads more images, including the entire unpublished content of GQ‘s December issue, onto a blog called FashionZag. The re-posting was, Condé’s lawyers said, "willfully done by defendants to thumb their noses at Condé Nast,” according to WWD.

Ulrich’s motivation?

Paul & Joe Blowout: Today on The Outnet

Posted: 21 Dec 2010 07:42 AM PST

We love The Outnet. Mostly because we own a piece of Erdem due to their fantastic discounts, but also because they team up on exclusives with plenty of our favorite designers, from Alex Wang to Balmain. For instance, today the site is hosting a special sale with Paul & Joe.

Not only will shoppers get a chance to score second-season merchandise at wallet-friendly prices, but designer Sophie Albou has opened up her archives to offer devoted fans the opportunity to scoop up some limited edition Paul & Joe pieces. We’ve been after the khaki short suit for years–it’s perfectly proportioned–so it’s nice to be able to revisit favorites that we thought got away. We suggest heading over to The Outnet asap, as this stuff is sure to sell out fast. (It did the last time the outlet site and Albou got together.) Enjoy!
