Posted: 27 Dec 2010 02:27 PM PST Pendleton To Design New Line: Pendleton is tapping into their young hipster fanbase and creating a new line called Pendleton, The Portland Collection. It will be unveiled next month to launch for Fall 2011. {WWD subscription required} Is Elle Moving to New Jersey?: Apparently Lagardère, who owns Elle, is considering two offers for the mag: one from Hearst and one from German publisher, Bauer. While Bauer publishes several mags overseas, they also publish titles in the US, namely tabloid weeklies In Touch and Life & Style, out of their US headquarters in Englewood Cliffs, New Jersey (we know this because one time we worked at Bauer for three weeks–and that commute sucks so much). So if Bauer buys Elle, they might end up, gasp, in New Jersey! {WWD subscription required} Aishwarya Rai Bachchan May Sue Elle For Lightening Her Skin: There’s some controversy brewing as to whether Aishwarya Rai Bachchan’s skin was lightened in her Elle India cover and now the Hindustan Times is reporting that she is “in disbelief” and may “take action.” {Hindustan Times} Follow Fashionista on Twitter or become a fan on Facebook. This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |
The Best Magazine Covers of 2010 Posted: 27 Dec 2010 02:01 PM PST Magazine covers in 2010 could be arranged into two simple categories: the absolutely amazing and the offensively bad. But let’s focus on the good here… 2010 was the year that brought us two sets of fantastic LOVE covers (including Alessandra styled by Katie Grand, and Rosie Huntington-Whiteley and Lauren Hutton, styled by Fashionista columnist Sally Lyndley), Anna Wintour on the cover of the somewhat mysterious Industrie magazine, Dakota Fanning doing her best starlet in Dazed & Confused, and Lara’s boobs, looking better than ever on the 90th anniversary issue of Vogue Paris. Overall, covers in 2010 were dynamic, bright, and a bit raunchy, so click through to see which ones hit the right note. Natalie Portman Is Pregnant: So What Should She Wear To the Oscars? Posted: 27 Dec 2010 11:02 AM PST Following Natalie Portman’s phenomenal Oscar-buzz-worthy performance in Black Swan comes this shocker: she is engaged to the film’s choreographer, Benjamin Millepied, and pregnant with his child, People is reporting. The beautiful couple (I mean, this will be the most gorgeous child ever, right?) started dating around a year ago during filming. Portman is so tiny she won’t be showing much by Oscar time (she’ll probably be about five or six months along come February), but it certainly ups her Oscar buzz and becomes a factor in her Oscar dress decision. This past year has shown that pregnancy is fashionable: Adriana Lima confessed to us that she was approached to walk the runway pregnant, only to be turned down for the gig because she wasn’t pregnant enough. And Miranda Kerr’s naked pregnant belly was all over the pages of glossies (and she also walked pregnant for Balenciaga). We’d be surprised if Portman didn’t wear Rodarte on Oscar night–they designed the ballet costumes for Black Swan and Portman is a fan of the Mulleavy sisters and has worn their creations to the Oscars before. So in light of Portman’s exciting news, we pulled a few dresses from Rodarte’s past collections that might work. Luckily, a lot of the dresses from Rodarte’s spring 2011 collection had ruffles and busyness right around the waist–perfect for distracting from a baby bump! But the swan gown from spring 2009 was too perfect not to include. And really, it’s the closest thing to what Rachel Zoe would deem an “Oscar gown” from their collections, even though that season has already seen a lot of red carpets. Behold: The New York Fashion Week Fall 2011 Calendar Posted: 27 Dec 2010 09:40 AM PST An early version of Ruth Finley’s Fashion Calendar landed in our inbox this weekend. Exciting! Of course, this isn’t the final version, which means plenty of this is subject to change. But there are some interesting items:

Terry Richardson’s Campaign For Equinox Gyms Is Exactly What You’d Expect Posted: 27 Dec 2010 07:50 AM PST Terry Richardson for…a fleet of gyms? This actually makes sense. The provocative photog generally shoots his models in various states of undress–or wearing no clothes at all–so it’s fitting that Equinox, a line of gyms with a sexy rep, hired him for their new print and digital ad campaign, WWD is reporting. Three images from the forthcoming campaign are out, and they are classic Richardson: hit-you-over-the-head sexy, intimate, a little dirty, and there is, of course, that ever present ’70s porn and Polaroid vibe. One of the ads even features a model in red and black lace bra surrounded by close-up Polaroids of her body. That image is captioned, “confidence.” Right. Another ad features a model’s misguided Dukes of Hazzard window jump attempt so that just her amazingly toned ass and legs hang out of the car window. Check them out.
