Rumor Mill: Fashion’s Night Out: The Show is Not Happening in 2011

Posted: 08 Dec 2010 07:00 AM PST

If you haven't already heard, it's been confirmed that Fashion's Night Out will happen again next September. Yayyy.

Planning is already underway, and this year's preparation should be a little easier because they won't have to worry about staging the biggest fashion show ever, or any show for that matter. That's right, according to a source inside Conde Nast, there will most likely not be a fashion show this time around.

But why? The show appeared to be a huge success. From Lauren's account of the event: "Last night, I got a taste of what New York Fashion Week would be like if it was produced by Anna Wintour. Every show would begin on time. Only the best of the best designers would be invited to participate. And the music would be very, very good."

Well, for one, it must have been incredibly expensive, time-consuming and difficult to coordinate.

Quote of the Day: Justin Bieber Thinks John Waters’ ‘Stache is the Jam

Posted: 08 Dec 2010 06:49 AM PST

“Your ‘stache is the jam.”

Justin Bieber to John Waters upon meeting the legendary transgressive filmmaker when they were both guests on the UK’s Graham Norton Show, as reported by The Baltimore Sun via Vulture. But the fun didn’t stop there.

Waters then pulled out an eyebrow pencil and asked if he could draw a mustache on the baby-faced pop phenom. The Biebs politely declined the offer on air, but after the cameras stopped rolling, Bieber let Waters draw a mustache on his swoon-worthy angel face. Waters said the ‘stache he gave Bieber was inspired by Little Richard. It’s almost too much amazingness for one morning.

First Look: Collina Strada for Of a Kind, On Sale Today

Posted: 08 Dec 2010 05:56 AM PST

Recently-launched, game-changing e-commerce site Of a Kind is letting us give you a sneak peak at their latest exclusive offering, which we are really digging. Collina Strada, who we love, created an awesome limited edition canvas and leather pouch for the small batch retailer. The pouch has that whole tribal meets modern aesthetic that Collina Strada does so well, but miniature and under $100.

The designer, Hillary Taymour, told us, "It was made with my favorite print I have done so far, I liked it so much I made my headboard for my bed out of it. I just made a small pouch so it would be a great stocking stuffer. It’s the perfect little something!"

Is it bad that I kind of want to buy it for myself? The pouch will be up for sale later today for $70 alongside an editorial feature on the designer. In the mean time, click through for pics (side note: how amazing is the model's nail polish?), then go to ofakind.com and get ready to click "buy."

Blake Lively Is the New Face of Chanel

Posted: 07 Dec 2010 02:38 PM PST

Blake Lively’s fashion star keeps rising. She’s a three-time Vogue covergirl (including covering the mag’s special “Best Dressed” issue), bosom buddies with Christian Louboutin, looks fly without a stylist (that’s right, I said ‘fly’), and now she’s snagged the most coveted campaign: Chanel.

E!‘s Mark Malkin is has it on good authority that the Gossip Girl star was just in Paris shooting a handbag campaign for the Kaiser. Plus, we have our own proof: In American Vogue‘s December 2010 issue, Anna Wintour makes a reference to Karl “scouting” Blake. The ad campaign should run early next year.

How I’m Making It: Style Like U

Posted: 07 Dec 2010 02:00 PM PST

I'm embarrassed to admit the insane number of hours I've spent on Style Like U. If you've never heard of the site, it's an inspiring hodgepodge of fashion editorials, content, images and documentary-style videos that feature the closets of interesting people with interesting style.

Shooting a stylish person's closet isn't a new concept, but Style Like U is definitely in a league of its own. Unlike most fashion publications that solely cover the closets of celebrities and socialites, Style Like U features everyone from New York City students to RZA of the Wu Tang Clan to fashion industry bigwigs like artist Terence Koh and super stylist Lori Goldstein. And the videos go beyond the subjects' clothes. Founders Elisa Goodkind and Lily Mandelbaum uncover interviewees' thoughts and philosophies about style and life.

Big changes are on the horizon for the site–their book Style Like U will be available next April–so I caught of with the mom-and-daughter team at their East Village
apartment, the Style Like U headquarters, for this installment of “How I'm Making It.”

Seven Lessons Learned at Our “How I’m Making It” Panel

Posted: 07 Dec 2010 01:33 PM PST

Last night was Fashionista's first ever panel discussion! Bringing our "How I'm Making It" feature to life was so much fun and incredibly informative. Our fabulous panel included Timo Weiland and Alan Eckstein (of Timo Weiland), Rebecca Minkoff, Jeff Halmos (of Shipley & Halmos), Nellie Partow, Michael Mente (of Farfetch.com and Revolveclothing.com) and Paul Birardi and Eddy Chai (Odin and Pas de Deux). If you weren't able to come, we didn't want you to completely miss out, so here's a rundown of what we feel were the evening's most enlightening points. (Some good news for out-of-towners: We’ll be livestreaming our next event.) And if you did come, well, we (and our panelists) hope you didn't leave too discouraged. If last night proved anything, it was that this business ain't easy.

Lesson #1: Be ballsy.
