Another year, another CFDA Awards. Tonight Diane von Furstenberg and Steven Kolb announced the nominations for 2011′s awards. But before she began to read out the names, DvF told the crowd at her packed studio that the organization would be putting together an auction for the victims of the Japan natural disasters. “We’re going to put together big packages. Designers, clients, suppliers–everyone is getting involved.” As for the nominees and honorees, there were very few surprises, except for maybe one. You’ve all probably heard by now that Canadian retailer Aritzia is opening up shop in SoHo. The store opens officially at 528 Broadway in early June, but New Yorkers can secret shop now at their “shop before the shop” on the third floor of 524 Broadway. We shopped before the shop and can report that it is very good news that Aritzia is finally coming to NYC (we had never heard of Aritzia before though they’re huge in Canada and have outposts on the west coast and in Chicago). Imagine Madewell plus Topshop plus Intermix all rolled into one. When the actual store opens in June they’ll carry many different brands (a la Intermix or Scoop) in addition to their own lines. But we’d be quite content to shop from Aritzia’s nine in-house lines. For spring there are luxe silk blouses, draw string silk pants cropped at the ankles, floaty skirts in creams and blushes, as well as younger-trending pieces like Baja hoodies, varsity jackets, and one very adorable sweater with a horse on it. 2) Using the arch of your eyebrow as a guide, start your part a few centimeters to the left or right depending on which side you want. 3) Comb over each side and pull back tightly, securing with an elastic close to the nape of your neck. (Either centered or off-center looks great ) 4) Then leave as a ponytail and let it air dry, or twist into simple chignon. 5) Finish off the top with light shinespray and/or hairspray depending how wet and sleek you want it. Former Alexander McQueen CEO Susan Whiteley has been confirmed as the new CEO of Givenchy Couture, reports WWD. Whiteley replaces Fabrizio Malverdi, who will now be running Dior Homme. Rumors circulated saying as much last month, so whether or not this has anything to do with Riccardo Tisci‘s possible move to Dior is unknown. But it does bring up an interesting point: If Tisci moves to Dior, he’s likely to design the menswear as well. Which means Kris van Assche would be out of a job…. Nicole Miller is nothing if not resourceful. The iconic designer has an uncanny knack for reinventing her brand to keep fans coming back. Her recent iteration is a bit of a social media darling. Since launching her Twitter account in 2009, Miller has attracted nearly 133,000 followers, which trumps designers considerably younger and presumably more digital than she. | January Jones Inspires Versace’s New Eyewear Collection Which Features 3D Medusa Heads Posted: 16 Mar 2011 12:00 PM PDT
Versace is launching a new line of eyewear for spring called January J. The name of the collection is a not so subtle nod to the inspiration behind the line: red carpet Versace devotee January Jones. Mad Men fan Donatella Versace, who dubbed Jones her next “Versace blond,” worked ’50s and ’60s movie star glamor into the line, which she showcased on her spring runway. It comprises two styles of sunglasses and one style of optical frames. Apparently when you look at these glasses head on “an entire 3D Medusa head is visible, branding the January J collection unmistakably as coming from the house of Versace,” the press release states. “This campaign is definitely a landmark in our relationship…and one that I hope will last a lifetime,” Jones said in the release. There are about a gazillion (at last count) perfume and fragrance websites out there. OsMoz distinguishes itself by being one of the more organized and comprehensive ones. The site contains information about every brand ever conceived, news, an encyclopedia, a community forum, and a feed for other perfume blogs. These people are serious.
