Emmanuelle Alt’s First Vogue Cover is Here

Posted: 11 Mar 2011 06:53 AM PST

We’ve long speculated exactly what Emmanuelle Alt’s Vogue Paris would be like… Edgier? Sportier? Tougher?

But now we have definitive proof that the adjective we’re looking for is softer. April’s cover features Gisele showcasing her sweeter side in a white Dolce & Gabbana dress. She wears almost no accessories, and looks like a natural beauty in the landscape of St. Barth’s.

Beauty Trendspotting Fall 2011: Towering Hair In Paris

Posted: 10 Mar 2011 12:30 PM PST

(From left to right: Ann Demeulemeester, Junya Watanabe, Haider Ackermann, Yohji Yamamoto, Issey Miyake, and Jean Paul Gaultier)

The hair in Paris was big. Not 80s big, but sculptural and dramatic. Ann Demeulemeester and Junya Watanabe went tall and spiky. Haider Ackermann and Issey Miyake created haute aliens, while Yohji Yamamoto and Gaultier did beehives in rainbow and shades of grey.

Walk under doorways at your own risk.

Kanye’s Paris Fashion Week Misadventures

Posted: 10 Mar 2011 12:07 PM PST

The fashion industry has a love/hate relationship with celebrities. Paris Vogue is just one of the European glossies notorious for choosing models over celebs for their covers. Last year, Marc Jacobs banned them from his front row because he thinks they distract people from paying attention to the show.

Kanye West definitely experienced this relationship during Paris Fashion Week this season. The rapper and fashion enthusiast managed to score invites to shows like Valentino and Givenchy, but not everyone in Paris was so welcoming.

Look Book: Twenty8Twelve’s Pretty Spring Pastels

Posted: 10 Mar 2011 11:30 AM PST

Sometimes, all you need is a pretty backdrop–and Tati Cotliar–to fall in love with a collection. We didn’t tumble head-over-heels for Twenty8Twelve’s Spring 2011 collection at London Fashion Week last September, but that’s all changed.

Starring one of our fav models, Ms. Cotliar, and actress Sienna Miller (Savannah’s sister and co-designer), the label’s spring look book is a lolly pop-lovers dream, with lots of pretty florals, stripes, and washed out oranges, peaches, pinks, blues, and purples. We heart it. Click through to see the complete collection.

Is AOL/HuffPo Dumping Stylelist?

Posted: 10 Mar 2011 10:56 AM PST

In light of its merger with the Huffington Post, AOL is laying off 900 staffers, and ridding itself of some of its most popular sites. Today, Racked reports that the company laid off its Editorial Director of Women’s & Lifestyle Programming, Colleen Curtis. The only remaining Styleist staff member is beauty editor Dana Oliver.

Granted, the two major positions at Stylelist–fashion news editor and senior fashion editor–are already unfilled. Susannah Cahn left before the new year to launch Fashion, Etc., and Sarah Cristobal left last week to head up editorial content at Diane von Furstenberg.

Textbook for Fashionista: Emmanuelle Alt!

Posted: 10 Mar 2011 09:36 AM PST

Fans of the Tumblr blog Textbook, take note: Fashionista has teamed up with the blog's mastermind, John Jannuzzi, to create storyboards for our industry's style stars. (See an archive of his work for us here.)

Who doesn’t know Emmanuelle Alt? Even before her somewhat new role as Editor-in-Chief at Vogue Paris, she was making waves in the blogosphere as their Fashion Director. She’s typically spotted in a Kate Lanphear-esque ensemble–jeans or leather pants, a simple shirt and some kind of awesome blazer or coat. Ms. Alt has certainly nailed her street style pose too, but being shot as many times as she is, who wouldn’t develop a trademark stance?

1. Oh you know, just being awesome.

Quote of the Day: John Galliano’s Jewish Lawyer Speaks

Posted: 10 Mar 2011 08:30 AM PST

“There are always those who preach, who say ‘how can a Jew defend anyone accused of such slurs,” he says. “My job as a lawyer is to guarantee that a person gets a fair trial and that his rights will be protected. I am wary of pre-judgment, that’s not my job…. [John Galliano] is hardly the devil. I never would have taken the case had I thought that.” –Stephane Zerbib, Galliano’s Jewish lawyer, regarding the defense of his client to Y Net News.

Three Organic And Natural Skin Care Brands To Try

Posted: 10 Mar 2011 08:00 AM PST

Organic and natural beauty brands are popping up faster than you can say "paraben free" lately. Consumers want more products that are free of nastiness and synthetic chemicals. And companies are obliging, in droves.

Lindsey Wixson's recent "makeup allergy" after a show in Paris is a good reminder that the things we put on and in our bodies have active ingredients that can mess with our biology.

Most people want products that work and are pleasant to use. But if using natural or organic versions is also important to you, you're in luck. There are so many brands filling this niche now, from homegrown to luxurious.

Click through for three brands that have committed to sustainable, natural beauty products that are fun, too.
