Check Out Photos From Emma Watson’s Lancôme Campaign Shoot

Posted: 15 Mar 2011 06:34 AM PDT

Yesterday Lancôme officially announced that Emma Watson would be their newest ambassadress. Paparazzi shots of her campaign as it was being shot by Mario Testino in Paris surfaced last night. From the looks of the shoot, Lancôme is bringing out Watson’s tougher side, giving her strong red lips and dark smokey eyes, slicking down her short pixie hair, and putting a cropped leather biker over her soft blush dress.

Thoughts?

Which means these photos look surprisingly natural, particularly for touch-up happy Vogue.

Snowboarding With A Champion, Nike 6.0, And Some Surfers

Posted: 14 Mar 2011 03:00 PM PDT

So I got to go snowboarding with the most decorated woman snowboarder in Winter X Games history. I didn't even knock her down while getting off the lift. Win! But perhaps I should back up a minute.

Nike 6.0 sponsored a trip for some editors to go to Windham Mountain to preview the brand’s Action Sports collection, then to try it on the slopes firsthand. We were greeted at an enormous mountainside log mansion, complete with antler chandeliers and masses of soft, curly shearling pillows strewn everywhere. After settling in with some coffee and snacks, we were introduced to three of Nike's Action Sports athletes.

Moda Operandi’s Aslaug Magnusdottir Talks Isabel Marant, Layaway for the Elite, and Why LSD Was Her Top Choice for a Partner

Posted: 14 Mar 2011 12:30 PM PDT

Innovations in retail are few and far between. In 2007, I remember hearing about Gilt Groupe and thinking, “this is going to change the way people shop.” Over the last four years, the flash sales site has certainly altered our idea of a discount.

But I’d argue that Moda Operandi–a new platform that allows users to buy pieces right off the runway–is equally as innovative, if not more so.

Fashion News Roundup: Daphne Guinness Says She Didn’t Call Victoria Beckham an “Ugly Pig,” Emma Watson Is the New Face of Lancôme, and Watch Crystal Renn Dance With a Chanel Surfboard

Crystal Renn is a Surfer Girl: Watch Crystal Renn dance and model and make shadow puppets and do everything but surf with a Chanel surf board in this fashion film on StyleCaster, the first of a three-part series Renn will do with the site. {StyleCaster}

Daphne Strikes Back: Daphne Guinness has taken to Twitter to deny the quotes attributed to her in the UK’s Sunday Times Magazine in which she reportedly called Victoria Beckham an “ugly pig” who “annoys the shit” out of her. “I feel like killing myself, I have been stabbed in the back by that journalist…I am so sad stitched up by the sunday times. I thought c. long was a friend. I would never call anyone an ugly cow, not my words,” she tweeted. “And for the record I not only admire Victoria Beckham but know her and like her. My point was that I do most things alone without a backer.” {@TheRealDaphne}

Is This For Real? Al-Qaeda Launches Women’s Glossy Dubbed ‘Jihad Cosmo’

Posted: 14 Mar 2011 10:22 AM PDT

Apparently, yes, this is for real. The Daily Mail is reporting that Al-Qaeda has launched a Cosmo-style lady mag called Al-Shamikha (the Majestic Woman) that “mixes beauty and fashion tips with advice on suicide bombings.” Because a girl’s got to get her face on before she engages in terrorism?

The 31-page glossy reportedly contains features like interviews with martyrs’ wives, advice for single gals on how to score a “mujahideen,” a beauty column that advises women to stay inside with their faces covered to ensure a clear complexion, and one piece cautions readers against “towelling too forcibly.”

Al-Qaeda’s rationale for their latest publication?

Has Kate Middleton Got the Mrs. O Effect? A Breakdown of Her Impact on Fashion

Posted: 14 Mar 2011 09:39 AM PDT

When Kate Middleton wore that blue Issa dress during the press conference announcing her engagement to Prince William, she spurred a frenzy for the frock. The now-famous silk jersey wrap dress sold out in store and online within 24 hours, brought name recognition to a little known brand and designer (Daniella Helayel), and inspired countless knock offs–some of them decent, some of the very bad. Then the cream colored Reiss dress she wore in her Testino-shot engagement portraits, an old style from her closet, prompted Reiss to reissue the dress.

Early on, despite Middleton’s conservative style, we sensed a Mrs. O effect in the works. During the Obama campaign and during the First Lady’s first 100 days in the White House, the press followed Michelle Obama’s every style style move and so did consumers. The Harvard Business Review even published a report on the First Lady’s proven ability to move the market. So far, Kate Middleton seems to be making a similar impact. She shops her closet and mixes high street pieces with high end ones. Consumers are clamoring to buy what she wears.

Today the Daily Mail broke down every notable item Middleton has worn since her engagement announcement and traced its impact:
