Your Face Could Be On A Piece Of Art That Lady Gaga Will Wear Posted: 18 Mar 2011 07:00 AM PDT Yes, your picture could potentially be plastered right on Lady Gaga's ass. Intrigued? I certainly was. Lady Gaga is the face of MAC's Viva Glam once again (or still) and yesterday MAC revealed its latest collaboration with the provocateur: Gaga and NIcola Formichetti are going to create a "masterpiece" and they need audience participation. From the Viva Glam website:

Six Pairs of Tennies For Spring Posted: 17 Mar 2011 04:00 PM PDT It’s 60 degrees in New York City today–wooohooo!–which means everyone is breaking out the sheer blouses, lightweight jackets, and easy sneakers. Leah and I both heart casual tennis shoes, so we’ve decided to pull together our annual roundup of the season’s best. Enjoy! Billy Reid Hosts South by Southwest Shindig with K-Swiss and American Songwriter Posted: 17 Mar 2011 03:30 PM PDT AUSTIN–Designer Billy Reid was undoubtedly the best choice to host for American Songwriter magazine's South by Southwest celebration yesterday. From the vintage-inspired venue to the unmistakably hipster vibe, the entire event was a testament to the simple yet romantic style we've come to know and love from the Alabama-based designer. Hosted at Austin's newest live music venue, Swan Dive, the party was a crowd pleaser, whetting music lovers' appetites with the likes of Keegan DeWitt, The Apache Relay, Jason Isbell and The Civil Wars. Not only did the party provide a taste of what the Texas music festival does best, it afforded plenty of opportunity for the fashion-inclined to express their personal style. There were skinny jeans paired with brogues–no surprise, there–dresses paired with vests, and fedoras paired with Ray Bans. And while the core of the world renown festival remains in art and music, a definite niche has been carved for fashion. (A new sartorial convention, Style X, premieres this weekend). Sally’s Styling Seminary: Packaging Posted: 17 Mar 2011 03:00 PM PDT How a stylist presents herself in the industry has always been important. It’s what I call creating your own "packaging." A stylist's "packaging" becomes her/his calling card. Stylists become easily recognizable and build their brand this way. How we present ourselves to our clients and our industry is our own special way of marketing. And now, with blogs covering the looks of editors, stylists and all other show-goers, packaging is even more important. In fact, a few stylists have even made careers out of marketing their personal style. For stylists and their assistants, their look expresses their sensibility and aesthetic without saying a word. Whether they like it or not, stylists are being judged on their looks, specifically their outfit, hair, makeup (for women), nails, etc. This is not about being "pretty,” or attracting a mate, this is about stylists physically reflecting their art. Clients and stylists' teams want to be inspired by the way a stylist looks. New Jockey StayCool Underwear Promises to Keep Your Hooha Three Degrees Cooler Posted: 17 Mar 2011 02:30 PM PDT A cooler just landed on our desks. Exciting right? What could be inside? Maybe some beers or cool beverages to enjoy after work on this lovely warm New York evening? Nope. There was underwear in the cooler. Light blue (meant to be ice blue, get it?) Jockey underwear. Jockey is promoting a new line of underwear called Jockey “staycool” and it uses fancy technology to keep your lady parts from overheating. According to the release, “The Outlast® temperature regulating technology behind Jockey® staycool underwear helps your skin feel up to 3° cooler.” You know it’s legit because the material was initially developed for NASA to “help balance temperature fluctuations in space.” So far the line only comes in bikini and brief styles. No icy cool thongs for you! Follow Fashionista on Twitter or become a fan on Facebook. This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |

Okay Stefano, We’re Soooo Over the Young Hollywood Covers for W Posted: 17 Mar 2011 12:15 PM PDT When Stefano Tonchi went to W, we had high hopes. The former T editor had a clear vision for the mag that we were excited for him to carry out. Now we’re just bored. At least with the covers. Ten Questions for America’s Next Top Model, Cycle 16 Posted: 17 Mar 2011 11:45 AM PDT Apologies for missing the last two episodes! CW wouldn’t let me watch online in Paris, but don’t worry I DVR’ed and I’m totally caught up. 1. Alexandria, what is with that hat? Really. You can’t be such a hater and then put on a hat like that for confessional. 2. Can we take a moment to mourn the loss of Molly’s weave, aka the worst weave to ever have happened to a person? OK. 3. First walking in a beach ball on a balance beam submerged in water, now a runway covered in fire and being lit on fire–is ANTM trying to kill its contestants? 4. Did Brittani just say “pooey” upon learning they’d have to do a commercial? Hee. 5. Sara. Enough with the women’s studies 101. Since when is being a beautiful sexy woman and being a feminist mutually exclusive? Adventures in Copyright: Creepy Prada Creepers Copies Posted: 17 Mar 2011 11:15 AM PDT Yesterday our buddies at Refinery 29 unearthed YesStyle’s knock-offs of the now infamous Prada creepers. Called the “Holly,” these lace-up wedge oxfords pale in comparison to the originals. Plus, they’re still almost $100 bucks. We say: Shame on you, YesStyle. We’d rather save our allowance for the real thing. What say you? Follow Fashionista on Twitter or become a fan on Facebook. This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |
Estee Lauder Goes Multi-Culti For Its New Campaign Posted: 17 Mar 2011 10:45 AM PDT Yesterday Estée Lauder held an event to introduce its new campaign titled, "Every Woman Can Be Beautiful." The event started with a few videos documenting Lauder campaigns through the years and Estée's (the person) belief that all women are beautiful. One of her fantastic quotes? "There are no ugly women, just lazy women." In other words, use some products! (Obviously Mrs. Lauder had some ulterior motives, but we like her spunkiness regardless.) Textbook for Fashionista: Stephanie LaCava! Posted: 17 Mar 2011 10:11 AM PDT Fans of the Tumblr blog Textbook, take note: Fashionista has teamed up with its mastermind, John Jannuzzi, to create storyboards for our industry’s style stars. Having penned pieces for Vogue, The New York Times and The Daily Beast, Stephanie LaCava has built a name for herself in the edit world. Of course, as with most fashion writers, she has her own unique style which pays homage to the decade we all know and love–the nineties. With a flare for the Nirvana age, I’m willing to bet that Ms. LaCava is a little more than excited about what we saw for Fall 2011. Everything old is new again, unless you never let it go. Here we are now, entertain us Quick jaunt to the library Enjoyed this? Tweet us a suggestion for next week or leave one in the comments below.
