We always wonder when her stunts will start to appear stale and she'll run out of ideas for how to titillate. What do you think of her latest? Lady Gaga took to her twitter account last night to post the picture (at left) to promote her Born This Way album, which drops on May 23. Posted: 21 Mar 2011 03:18 PM PDT When I went to the prom over a decade ago, Marc by Marc Jacobs didn’t exist. Our options were thus: Caché, Jessica McClintock, BCBG and if your mom could afford it, Betsey Johnson. Of course many of us opted for vintage. I, for one, wore a gunmetal gown with a little black cardigan on top, inspired by a Calvin Klein ensemble Gwyneth Paltrow chose for a red carpet appearance in the late 1990s. But then there’s Steff, who wore Marc Jacobs collection to her prom. (Yeah, that’s right. She wore the dress again last year to the Whitney Art Party. It’s amazing.) Leah spent a pretty penny, but wasn’t as happy with the results. “I bought (what I then considered) a very expensive beaded BCBG gown. I also thought it was the prettiest dress ever,” she says. “Then coming back from a boozy pre-graduation beach week in Delaware (which is some DC schools’ ritual) my friends and I stopped at a Loehmann’s and I bought a slutty, pink postage stamp of a dress for $50 and wore that instead.” Don’t worry though, she wore the pretty BCBG dress to a wedding, and had a fever on prom and went home early so the slutty tube dress didn’t get much play. But even if we loved our dresses, there are so many amazing options out there now–from Target to Forever 21 to H&M–that we’re pretty sure we could have found something even better if we were graduating in 2011. Are you going to prom this year? What will you wear? If prom was long ago, what would you choose if you could do it all over again? Click through for our gallery of dream prom dresses. Ten Things To Love About Priscilla, Queen of the Desert Posted: 21 Mar 2011 01:00 PM PDT Being an unabashed fan of campy Broadway musicals, drag queens, and disco, I was quite pleased to accept an invitation from Swarovski to attend a preview of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert. Based on the 1994 movie, the musical just opened on Broadway. Bette Midler is a producer, and Oscar winners Tim Chappel and Lizzy Gardiner designed the costumes, which really deserve their own credit on the playbill. The musical is lighter than the film version, and campier, as any production featuring 15 disco classics must inevitably be. Themes like homophobia and non-traditional family are touched upon, but not brooded over. Overall, I left the theater feeling absolutely elated. It was better than any anti-depressant. Why Jane Seymour Will Cover the Royal Wedding for ET Instead of Joan Collins Posted: 21 Mar 2011 12:04 PM PDT Every entertainment news show is lining up their royal wedding coverage. After all, Kate Middleton and Wills’ big day is just under a month and a half away now. According to The Hollywood Reporter, ET had initially looked at Joan Collins to be its correspondent for the big day (which would be awesome). Unfortunately, when OG diva Collins allegedly demanded a first-class ticket to London from LA, the show set their sights on someone else. Now Jane Seymour will cover the wedding for ET and Sharon Osbourne will be The Insider‘s lady on the scene (though we’d rather watch her daughter Kelly). Both Seymour and Osbourne have released statement regarding their upcoming gigs: Follow Fashionista on Twitter or become a fan on Facebook. This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |
Look Book: Richard Nicoll’s Collection for Australian Store Sportsgirl Posted: 21 Mar 2011 11:30 AM PDT Acclaimed London designer Richard Nicoll actually hails from Perth, so his collaboration with Australian high street brand Sportsgirl is no surprise. Of course, we’re dying to get our hands on at least a few items in the nine-piece collection, a mix of black and grey checks that look as modern as they do rockabilly. The good news: yes, Sportsgirl does ship to the US. The bad news: there’s a minimum shipping charge of $55. But the gentle prices–$120 for a skirt, $200 for a blazer–might make it worthwhile. Anna Wintour Covers the April Issue of WSJ. Posted: 21 Mar 2011 10:50 AM PDT There’s a big Anna Wintour profile in April’s WSJ.–the Vogue editor-in-chief even posed for the cover, shot by Mario Testino. And since it’s WSJ., the focus will be on Wintour’s business dealings, in and outside of fashion. Hopefully there will be some interesting tidbits. Gisele Bündchen Gets Covered Up For the Dubai Version of Her H&M Campaign Posted: 21 Mar 2011 10:30 AM PDT A tipster at La Moda Dubai pointed out that Gisele Bündchen‘s spring campaign for H&M looks just a little different in Dubai. The site ran the campaign and then one of their Facebook followers pointed out that the ads were different from the US campaign. “Perhaps some changes were made to better align the campaign with the sensibilities of the GCC market,” the site mused (GCC is the Gulf Cooperation Council countries which are: Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, UAE). This is undoubtedly not the first time this has happened–it makes sense that global campaigns are altered to fit each market. It’s just that the changes made to this particular H&M campaign for the GCC market are glaringly obvious. Check out a few side by side comparison’s of Gisele’s spring campaign for H&M for the Western market and for the Middle East.
