Blake Lively Confirms That She Isn’t Attending The Chanel Show, Tells Us Why Posted: 03 Mar 2011 05:28 AM PST A well-dressed and starry crowd gathered at a small and elegant venue in NYC last night to celebrate Blake Lively's new role as Chanel ambassador. The random guests we saw milling around included Justin Long (who we overheard telling someone that he's thinking of moving to Austin), Dr. Pat Wexler, and Curtis Stone. A card for "Mr. Zac Efron" sat on the table unclaimed. But of course the biggest agenda of the evening was to talk to Blake about the recent rumors we heard about her not attending the upcoming Fall 2011 Chanel show because it's "tacky" to do so as a celeb. A miffed member of Blake's team confirmed that indeed Blake wouldn't be attending the Chanel show this coming Tuesday. But she also wanted to assure me that it is "killing" Blake that she can't attend. I was then hustled up to talk to Blake about it firsthand. Blake pronounced us "mean" for publishing the initial story, but smiled and was really quite sweet and disarming about it all. Here's what she had to say about the show, about doing campaigns for other brands, and about whether Karl Lagerfeld ever wears sneakers: So you're not going to the Chanel show..why? Latest Gossip From Paris: Tisci to Dior, Ackermann to Givenchy, Slimane to YSL Posted: 03 Mar 2011 02:00 AM PST Clearly the only thing anyone in Paris is talking about this week is John Galliano, and who will replace him at Dior. The latest gossip goes something like this: Riccardo Tisci will indeed replace Galliano at Christian Dior, Haider Ackermann will slip into Tisci’s spot at Givenchy, and despite YSL’s vehement denial otherwise, Hedi Slimane is about to take over for Stefano Pilati. Oh, and yes, Carine Roitfeld is coming along for the ride. What’s more, if Ackermann is out of the running at Chanel, does that mean its Alber Elbaz’s when Karl purportedly retires in 2012? Before They Were Street Style Stars Posted: 02 Mar 2011 02:25 PM PST It’s hard to believe there was ever a time that Anna Dello Russo didn’t walk around with cherries on top of her head, or that Taylor Tomasi-Hill wasn’t impeccably layered behind cat-eye shades. In the past few years, street style blogs like the Sartorialist, Jak & Jil, and Street Peeper have propelled a group of flawlessly and outrageously dressed editors and it-girls to rock star status, their outfits documented by throngs of style paparazzi each time they leave the office. We unearthed snapshots of seven prominent street style icons when they were just names on a masthead. We (and our self-esteem) were surprised and relieved to find that the style of these ladies was once not so different from the rest of ours. Street Style Stars: They Used to Be Just Like Us! Fall 2011 Beauty Trendspotting: Will the Real Slim Braidy Please Stand Up? Posted: 02 Mar 2011 02:00 PM PST The Fall 2011 shows are 75% over, and we’re pretty comfortable calling braids a world-wide trend. Can we blame/credit Alex Wang‘s S/S 2010 collection for the current plaitmania? Hard to say, but you couldn’t go more than 50 feet without seeing a braided model. They were loose and boho at Rag and Bone and Erdem (and Mara Hoffman topped hers with turbans). Rachel Roy and Erin Fetherston were channeling the St.Pauli Girl (or yodelers). Alexandre Herchcovitch and Nanette Lepore got complicated with their braided updos, and Etro flirted with cornrows. Carven Fall 2011: Cool Girls at the Café Posted: 02 Mar 2011 01:30 PM PST PARIS–”We wanted to invite people to an anonymous place like a French café– a bit messy but we like it messy because that’s real life–girls are not always super perfect” said Carven designer Guillaume Henry after his first “showtation” for the revived Paris couture house. Yes, you heard that right. That’s Henry’s fashion neologism for the way he showed Carven’s fall collection at the Palais de Tokyo this morning–half show half presentation. Showgoers sat as if at a Paris café, gathered around tiny round tables as models walked (very carefully) up and down stairs through doorways from behind a scrim, so that you could see the silhouettes of the clothes as they walked behind each doorway. It was very clever. Follow Fashionista on Twitter or become a fan on Facebook. This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |

Butter London Goes Royal: “No More Waity, Katie” Polish Available Now Posted: 02 Mar 2011 12:30 PM PST Brits are really good at coming up with snarky nicknames. "Waity Katie" was the moniker bestowed on Kate Middleton by the British press because this royal proposal was eight years in the making. While everything from condoms to dish towels have been made to commemorate the royal nuptials, none are as fun as a good nail polish. Butter London has just released a nail lacquer in Kate's honor, called "No More Waity, Katie." It's a greige base sprinkled liberally with lilac glitter. While we're not sure that Kate herself will be rocking this glittery confection, it's a really fun and spring-y color, well-suited to a pedicure. In addition to courting future royalty, Butter–whose nail lacquer formulas are all formaldehyde, toluene, and DBP free–has had quite a presence on catwalks lately, having done custom nails for the girls at Vena Cava, Alexander Wang, Calvin Klein, Betsey Johnson, Yigal Azrouel, and Christian Cota. Prada’s Spring 2011 Dance Party Continues with “Real Fantasies” Video Posted: 02 Mar 2011 11:45 AM PST
Can’t get enough of Prada’s amazing and cerebral videos? Well here’s another dose of Miuccia’s medicine. “Real Fantasies” is Prada’s latest video directed by James Lima. Prada models show off their best dance moves (which range from Ginta’s groovy hip swings to Stam’s walk-in-place technique) to a variety of surreal, uncanny, and psychedelic backgrounds courtesy of OMA, Rem Koolhaas’ hip architectural collective founded in the ’70s. Existing somewhere between art image and fashion promotional film, “Real Fantasies” is sure to make anyone wish that their reality was filled with banana-prints and striped heels. John Galliano Will Stand Trial, Might Go To Prison Posted: 02 Mar 2011 11:19 AM PST The AP reports that John Galliano will stand trial for his “alleged racial insults” sometime between April and June. If found guilty, he could face six months in prison and $31,000 in fines. What do you think? Should Galliano go to jail? Or is another punishment more appropriate?
