Diane von Furstenberg Helped Out With Costumes on Her Daughter’s Movie Posted: 18 Mar 2011 02:09 PM PDT Diane von Furstenberg‘s daughter Tatiana is a writer/director in Hollywood. You’ve probably heard more about von Furstenberg’s other child, Alex, who gained Page Six-style notoriety when he flew a plane with a banner that said “Reggie Miller Stop Pursuing Married Women” over the coast of Southern California a few years ago after his fiance was caught in a sexting scandal with Reggie Miller. But I digress. Tatiana von Furstenberg wrote and directed this movie called Tanner Hall starring Rooney Mara before she was cast in Girl With the Dragon Tattoo. According to “Rambling Reporter” Merle Ginsberg at the The Hollywood Reporter (subscription required), mama von Fusternberg helped out with the costumes for the film, which is described by IMDB as “a vivid peek into the private world of an all-girls boarding school.” Which sounds kind of awesome. von Furstenberg recently launched a home decor line, just handed out some awards for her second annual DVF Awards to honor female humanitarians, heads up the CFDA and, you know, designs some clothes. And now movie costumes? We’re tired thinking about all of it. Follow Fashionista on Twitter or become a fan on Facebook. This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |

Go Buy Who What Wear’s New Book and Awesome Shoe Collection ASAP Posted: 18 Mar 2011 01:00 PM PDT Not only do I love Who What Wear for its daily dose of celebrity style and fashion inspiration, I also love the site’s founders Hillary Kerr and Katherine Power, because they’re not only nice and adorable, but also inspiring. These two former magazine editors have taken a topic no one else really does well–celebrity fashion–and made it into something cool, but still accessible. So I was thrilled to hear that the duo was launching their second book, What to Wear Where: The How-to Handbook for Any Style Situation. I’ve always been a fan of their instructive videos explaining how to wear a certain look, whether it’s a pleated skirt or high-waisted bell bottoms. (Just because I’m a fashion writer doesn’t mean I’m a stylist!) The book is fantastic because it gives you outfit options for pretty much every situation, from a first date to your high school reunion. Even if you fancy yourself a super stylist, it’s a good place to get ideas. The Jersey Shore‘s Sammi “Sweetheart” Launches Jewelry Line for RichRocks Posted: 18 Mar 2011 12:30 PM PDT There’s been a dearth lately of Jersey Shore fashion products. For a while there it seemed like every week brought news of a new line of underwear or slippers or hair extensions from one of the cast members. But where’s the Snooki merch now? What’s happening to Filthy Couture? Thank goodness, then, for Sammi "Sweetheart" Giancola, who just launched a limited edition collection of jewelry for RichRocks. It’s no surprise to see Sammi making a foray into the world of fashion–she said as much a few months ago. But, she told Gurl.com "I'd love to get into fashion and designing hair extensions and hair products." Who can say what inspired the Jersey Shore hair goddess to get into bling over hair extensions. All we know is that Sammi’s line of blinged out very literal sweetheart-shaped jewelry is here. Take a look. Nothing’s over $40. New Spring Nail Polish Alert: Illamasqua Toxic Nature Posted: 18 Mar 2011 10:00 AM PDT Illamasqua, the UK makeup brand known for its bright colors and eccentric artist-cum-Creative Director Alex Box, is gaining a bit of a foothold here in the US. It's sold at Sephora and has been blessed by Pat Field. With the release of its new Toxic Nature nail lacquers–coming in April–we suspect the brand will pick up more fans. There are five colors in the collection and they're inspired by "nature fighting back against the genetically modified society that plunders it." Don't get too caught up in the message; the colors are really cool. Follow Fashionista on Twitter or become a fan on Facebook. This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |
Seven Questions for Joseph Altuzarra Posted: 18 Mar 2011 09:00 AM PDT Here's a riddle for you: Michelle Obama is to Jason Wu as _____ is to Joseph Altuzarra. Curious who Altuzarra himself credits with "putting [him] on the map" by putting his clothes on her back? So were we, especially considering how very, very much on the map Altuzarra is right now. Altuzarra’s CFDA nomination this week (the label’s second in its two years existence) further bolded a big red X on the grid, and to no one’s surprise. His feminine but not precious collections (think Alaïa and Tom Ford) have become fast favorites of socialites (LSD), celebs (Rihanna), and some very discerning critics. We caught up with Joseph at his Barneys trunk show yesterday to chat about his success so far, what’s to come in the future, and yes, to fill in the blank of that riddle… Follow Fashionista on Twitter or become a fan on Facebook. This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |
Kate Middleton’s Sheer Student Fashion Show Dress Sells for Over $125,000 at Auction Posted: 18 Mar 2011 08:00 AM PDT It was the dress that made Prince William notice Kate Middleton. A lot of other dudes at the 2002 Dont Walk charity fashion show at St. Andrews probably noticed her, too. The dress, designed by University of the West of England fashion grad Charlotte Todd (she now works in an aquarium), was supposed to be a skirt. Kate wore the sheer knit number as a dress with nothing but a bra and panties underneath, and the rest is history. And now that dress has fetched $125,871 at auction, the AP is reporting. The buyer, who shelled out over $125,000 for the dress (it was expected to sell for around $15,000 and cost Todd £30 to make), is an anonymous man, known only as ‘Nick from Jersey,’ the Daily Mail is reporting. His bidder said on behalf of his buyer, “He thinks it’s an iconic piece and is very happy with the purchase.” And a little more on the dress, in case you were wondering what size Kate was when she wore it: Follow Fashionista on Twitter or become a fan on Facebook. This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |
Reese Witherspoon Will Cover the May Issue of US Vogue Posted: 18 Mar 2011 07:30 AM PDT Some little birdie on The Fashion Spot just posted that Reese Witherspoon would cover the May issue of US Vogue. S/he followed up the message with a “please delete, I was wrong,” but we know for a fact that s/he was actually right. Our source confirms that the Water for Elephants star will grace the May issue.
